The standard "HIV test" does not test for HIV. It tests for the antigens in the blood, not for the virus itself. So there may be a confusion.

Also, people with a disease called X-linked agammaglobulinemia will pass the standard HIV antigen tests with flying colors even though they have a raging case of HIV.
