Coolest team names in Pro Sports (and Div 1A College)?

Yeah, minor league baseball has a big leg up on cool team names. Albuquerque has the Isotopes, Scorpions (minor league hockey), Thunderbirds (d-league basketball) and the UNM Lobos. We used to have the Chiles (minor league soccer) too. Unfortunately, our high school teams have extremely generic mascots...Eagles, Bears, Vikings, etc. We do have the Sandia Matadors though.

For pro sport team names, I like the Dodgers, Knicks, Avalanche, and the Patriots.

I really like the names that actually reflect the town's history.

Arsenal is cool. In the US I like the Steelers and the Pistons.

Clearly the bestest of the coolest are in the minor-leagues.


Lots of people really liked the name of the old minor-league hockey team the Macon Whoopee.

Chattanooga Lookouts is decent as well imo.
