US sports nuts explain to me the appeal of college sports

I'm not saying this about anyone here, but I've heard this refrain a lot from people who don't like black people.

college is dominated by african american players too. horrible argument.

also...there are NBA players who don't try all the time.

here is a list of them: chris webber, vince carter, chris wilcox, tracy mcgrady, jermaine oneal...i cant really think of any others does anyone want to help fill in the rest of the list??

In football, college is where it started. There was no profesional football until 1919, and even then, for a long time, profesional football wasn't well thought of. It was thought to be better to be an amature, and then, go into your chosen profession (sort of the way the olympics used to be). It wasn't untill the late fifties that pro football, started to become very popular.

In basketball, the situation is similar. There was no pro basketball until 1948.

I think this is the reason that college sports are popular, even to this day. The only really popular college sports are football and basketball. If you look at baseball, which has had respected profesionals since the 1800's, you see that the college version of the game isn't very popular (when compared to pro baseball, or college football or basketball).

Didnt think jermaine oneal belonged on that list but i guess i havent watched him enough. Id add Carmelo but he may have changed. We could have a list of 16 mil players that are worth 5 mil and we'd have a pretty big list.

I enjoy all 4, but think pro sports own college, the skill level difference is just that massive.

Huh? Why would there be any more plays in college than in the pros, much less so many more plays to significantly change the impact of variance?

This isn't a huge problem because it happens very rarely, but the constant trading is very annoying. I'm from a place with no pro sports, and I can't really be loyal to any team. I end up being loyal to certain players, and when they retire/move on I lose interest in that team pretty fast.

Blah blah blah. In the last 45 or so years there have been 6 franchise moves in the NFL. That 3 of them involve LA (Raiders to LA, Raiders leave LA, Rams leave LA), and that two of them happened in the same year is total variance and does not mean this sort of thing happens all the time.
