Dude, I dunno. It is hot, but imagine how icy cold the dinner table is going to be if everyone takes Dad's name?

Unless your wife is making more money than you, this is completely unacceptable.

Besides, up till high school or so, its pretty much immaterial.

what???!?!? your last name may one of the most significant factors in one's childhood. it determines the first letter of your last name which in turn establishes where you sit in class and what order in line you stand from kindergarten until HS. how you can be so dismissive?

What was his name to begin with? If I had a name like Ben Gay or Richard Head or something similarly stupid thanks to crackhead parents I'd likely change mine as well.

My English teacher in college was a huge feminist. She kept her last name and they chose a brand new name different than the mother or father for the child. I cant imagine that child wont have issues.

Seriously. I've always figured my future wife would end up w/ my last name, but if she didn't want it, I think we could work out some sort of a compromise. No way in hell would such a compromise involve me taking hers.

My name caused me a load of bother in Technology class at school.

The workshop was only allowed 20 people, but there were 24 of us in the class. Each week 4 people had to sit out and do something else, so they couldn't work on their project. Since my name was at the top of the list, I had to sit out on the very first week.

The next week everyone would know exactly what they were doing and had moved onto the next step, and I had to try and find out how to start the friggen thing. Gradually I got more and more behind and I never finished my projects.
