I don't know much about either of these, but I imagine they should both be good for you. Its usually better to be at a less crowded resort like sierra at tahoe for your first time. Plus you really don't need to pay the $60++++ whatever it is for heavenly or squaw tickets.

tmfs - For beginner skiers a great option is to stay at the Reno Hilton and ski at Mt. Rose.
