Re: Tipping for to-go orders?
If I'm paying in cash and there is change left over I'll drop it in the tip jar, otherwise I don't tip for takeout.

[ QUOTE ]
I always thought the tips were shared with the cooks and busers and bartenders and hosts etc. I always tip a little cause some of them are still working on my order even if I'm not sitting at a table. [/ QUOTE ] The money usually goes to someone who had the least to do with preparing your order. Usually someone just brings the bag out from the back, already fill of condiments by someone else and pockets your tip. |

Re: Tipping for to-go orders?
As someone who has worked in a Ruby Tuesday's/Applebees type restaurant, working to-go orders is MUCH harder than normal serving. Not only do you bring food out to people's cars, but you are also responsible for listening for and answering the phone, taking orders, packing orders, running out to cars, and running back in and out when someone is paying with a credit card. Sometimes you can have 10 orders going at once and you have to juggle all these things at the same time, which can be extremely overwhelming. You also don't even make minimum wage (at least where I worked.) So honestly working to-go is not worth it unless you are getting decently tipped, which most ignorant folks don't realize.
To sum it all up: tip your to-go people. They work a lot harder than you realize and make crap money. |
