I live in Charlotte and go to UNCC. There are a couple of college games but usually at sketch apartments or someone's place I dont know. As for playing 3/6 with 600 bucks, this is where i failed and learned about bankroll management. After this, read many articles/posts about BM and i think Ive got it down now. But your right, 3/6 with a 600 roll is no good.

I don't know if you can still do it, but casino whoring is a great way to build a roll. I built up $5k doing this about 8 months ago.

Man reading these kind of threads makes me think a lot more 2+2ers are long term losers than I thought (not directed at you personally, just a general statement).

First thing: Live in NC, no casinos even close.

Second thing: Not 21, so no casinos.

Third thing: As for being a long term loser, call it what you will. An original deposit of 50, and ive cashed out over 1k in a year and a half. Then I had 600 buks and was playing the 3/6 limit, so a couple bad sessions there and there goes a roll.

I am not trying to play profesionally, just get some extra money and have fun doing it.

Where in NC exactly? Just curious since I know some guys who run cardrooms in the Jacksonville area. I could maybe hook you up with them. Their games are so so soft. 1/2 NL mostly, may have added a few games since i moved away from there. They host tourneys as well. PM me if your interested.

I've got the same problem almost exactly, Im up slightly for the year but it should be way more, I just have had terrible money management skills and have blown through rolls, this last time was probably the worst and really was the one that got through my head, basically my friend lent me 40 on stars and within 3 days of playing the low limit SNGs I was up to 170, pay him back and the next thing I know somehow Im in the 4/180 challenge and 9 tabling MTTs, and goodbye my pledge to grind. I think its finally sunk in how much of a leak my roll management has been and Im 100% changing when Im finally able to deposit and start rebuilding.

1) get rakeback somewhere
2) deposit $300-500
3) 4-table NL25 6-max
4) profit

Play the $4/180s and the appropriate buy-in turbo sngs until you have $1000, then play the $20/180s. Good bankroll management is very important. A good rule of thumb is 100 buy-ins for your level so you have a low risk of ruin, but I've read that 200 buy-ins is really good. But in the smaller field MTTs, I think 50 buy-ins is ok. When you get your br up to $1000, you can start adding stuff in like $11 freezeouts and $3r. Don't play outside your bankroll if you want to keep it.

Keep your bankroll money and your personal money completely separate. I never pull $$ from my bank account and add it to my bankroll. I only pull $$ out of my bankroll to add to my bank account.

Good luck.

Maybe you are, but there is much lower variance, and variance is the enemy of the bankroll (re)builder.

You can easily make like $12/hr 4-tabling NL25. If you deposit $500, play 25 hours, make $300, start taking shots at NL50, play another 25 hours and make 400-500, instant bankroll for the $10/180s in like 2 weeks worth of work.

i find winning a major touranment to be a big boost to the br. well, by 'i find' i mean 'i hear' because i haven't.

Yeah. Winning an MTT is definitely the way ahead. I get slightly nervous thinking about what I'll do if this plan fails one day.

I'd echo most of the comments here. STTs are good. I generally only two table with staggered starts on two different sites.

I also think HU $10-20 SNGs are pretty good.

I also play Stud, usually Pot Limit but some Limit too. Less variance and much weaker players - less so on Stars though. On Crypto, it's just a licence to print money...slowly.

In response to Jurollo's point about long term losers, I suspect that one of the main reasons for this is playing large field tournaments. The Stars rebuys are all very enjoyable but they are not a good way to make money, IMO.

I play 100-300 runner events almost exclusively. I think that's good for BR and good for morale, which in itself is good for BR.

Lastly, pay attention to good 'bets'. IMO, there aren't any good 'bets' on Stars. It's great to play etc. etc. but when do you ever see an overlaid guarantee, or an added, or a rebuy where the vast majority don't insta rebuy or addon?

Of course, if you're American, you may not have this choice anymore but I'd presume that there still must be some good stuff out there, if you look hard enough. Look for sites that are looking for you and give them a whirl.
