what bigger flush could Villain possibly have, here? The only hand that would make sense would be something like 7h8h, but that might not even be possible (you don't say which flop card was a heart).
Villain's line looks like A7, A3 or A2. Also, Villain cannot put you on hearts here and will pay this off more than enough of a time (probably thinking you have a weirdly played set 20% of the time and complete air 80% of the time). Value raise to $600 or so and you will be called by a lot of hands. |

If I stick in a bet of, say, $350 on the turn, villian will probably come over the top for $800 or so more (assuming that he had AK). [/ QUOTE ] why are you putting him on AK? why are you assuming he c/r's you? |

If you dont raise the river with that backdoor flush, then how will you ever get any action when you do make a raise? [/ QUOTE ] I agree that metagame is one reason to make this raise, but it's not as important as the fact that not raising is burning money immediately. --Nate |

i think raymer is right on here IMHO.. say you raise.. and he doesnt pay you off.. he's not seeing your hand regardless and will play the river a little more cautiously on you which will allow you to make plays and has great meta value. i think you get a crying call from villain here a lot of the time. [/ QUOTE ] how will not showing your hand allow you to make plays? seems the opposite should be true. it will be more difficult to make plays, since villain will now want to look you up. |

you might argue that an even bigger problem than the value you missed on the river is the fact that when you decide to raise the river in spots like this in the future, your range will be far too polarized between bluff and nuts, and that makes you easy to play against.

SW,
I'm pretty sure you play limit very well. The difference between a limit player and an NL player is that in limit, the turn check is probably the best play and there are people against whom you do actually just call the river. Compare that to the rest of this thread and I think you'll get it. |
