Cornell, Did you ever get to meet the person you donated to? My cousin donated marrow 10 years ago or so... the donor recipient was around my age and only had a 20% chance of survival, and he ended up pulling through. I got to meet him when that cousin got married -- he came to the wedding -- and it must be an awesome and rewarding experience to meet the person whose life you saved. [/ QUOTE ] No, I did it anonomyously... I think that it would have been awkward for someone to feel indebted to me for doing something like that. Also, although I did not think about this at the time, I wouldn't want to know if his body did not accept the transplant or if it didn't help... I would have felt like I went through the experience for naught |

This wasn't really the nicest thing I've ever done, but I was out on Granville street in Vancouver after a night out, and bought a couple of slices of pizza. There was a guy on the street who looked really hungy/ragged, so I gave him both slices. He thanks me, tells me how hungry he was etc, how he wishes there was more people like me. I'm across the street about 20 seconds later basking in my awesomeness when I see the #$%#er sell the two slices of pizza to another bum for a quarter.

When I was in Bible College in Texas, there was a super friendy freshman girl that was going to be kicked out of school because she did not have the full tuition by the date it was due. I went to the accounting office and asked what her balance was. It was just under 3K and I paid it under the condition of total anonimity. She was so exited that a miricle had taken place. I wonder now what she would think if she knew that her Jesus Journey was helped by a gay guy.

I wish I had loot like that to throw around to help people. Instead, I can only do things like stopping for people broke down on the side of the road. |
