[ QUOTE ] man, that would be hilarious to see someone going to a salon to have their entire body waxed, so they don't fail a drug test. [/ QUOTE ] sounds like a good add-on business for a headshop. [/ QUOTE ] This is genius. Co-branding at its best. |

[ QUOTE ]
Has any poster who lives outside the US ever had to submit to a drug test at work/to get work? I find it amazing that Americans have to go through this...it seems rather invasive to me. Plus I remember watching a news program on TV that talked about the huge percentage of false positives that result from the testing methods that are used. However, every week I see a new post on here plus a bunch of responses from US-based posters, talking about drug tests as if they are extremely common. [/ QUOTE ] Its not a requirement - its just something that some companies do. Usually, they are companies that are some combination of : a) Paranoid about drug using employees putting them into situations where they face huge lawsuit liability. b) Ownership is dead set against drug use c) Past history has taught them that drug users by and large are more trouble than they are worth d) Have more applicants than jobs, so can be picky about who they hire e) Find it difficult to fire people once they've been hired More often than not, its a+d that are the cause. I've worked many places and only been tested once. |

Hair drug tests can be pretty innaccurate, you might just luck out.

Update: I'm not sure if anyone cares, but I did fail. It's cool though because I found another job already that only requires a pee test.

Perhaps the statistics do prove otherwise, but IMO I don't see a difference between recreational MJ users and recreational alcohol drinkers. As long as you are qualified for the job, and aren't going to work high, I don't see what the big idea is.
But then again, I'm just a small business owner... |

America makes me sick.
My weekend recreational joint smoking has absolutely no bearing on my work performance during the week. I understand testing for crack or other crazy [censored], but weed? I don't even snort coke and I don't see railing a line and being a solid job performer as mutually exclusive. What's next? Genetic testing to determine if you're predisposed to psychological disorders? You can have all your cool new products and technology and crap, I'd hate to live in the USA with all those tight-asses. |

You know what? it's not that big of a deal. I don't fool around with drugs all that much anymore, but I certainly used to, and I passed my fair share of drug tests in the process. Unless you have a major problem, abstaining for a little while so you can pass the test shouldn't be that difficult.
I disagree that there is no correlation between job performance and drug use. A person who fails a drug test, all else being equal, is clearly less likely to perform well in a job than one who passes. What about this seems unclear? Who cares about your privacy? It's a business with a bottom line to protect, not the peace corps or some not-for-profit charity group. If you don't like it, don't apply for the job. Nobody is forcing anyone to take a drug test. |

I live in Sweden and have had to take a drug test for one of my jobs. Really have no idea why since it was a desk job that just made me sit and talk on the phone all day.
Never heard of any of my friends having to do this though. And my dad (who works where I had to take the test) never did. |
