I cant get over the fact that PH is going to quit side games for the year when he hits $400,000. There a midstakes grinders on this site making more than that.

PH is making a lot more than that though.

Hellmuth makes millions from the business side of poker. Being one of the co-owners of ultimate bet is alone worth millions.

In fact it is Matasuw who has the worst of this bet, assuming that Helmuth can collect any winnings. Helmuth has total control of when he stops playing...if he is up 400k he stops and ensures maximum payout. If he is down 400k he can continue trying to win it back. This is essentially the payout structure of a 'kick-out option' and in financial markets Hellmuth would have to pay a hefty premium for it.

yah its a real bad bet
mike basicly cant lose
Phill makes money Mike dont pay up
Phill loses money Mike makes money

Does anyone have anything to support the notion that Matusow A.) Would squelch on a bet. or B.) That he does not pay back the people that he owes money to?

I have heard plenty of jokes from pros that he borrows money all the time, but never that he has refused to pay anyone back.

yeah but the option is nearly worthless due to the enormous amount of credit risk

I know hellmuth makes millinos from poker related things but...

I still ifnd it funny that a good year in sidegames for him is 400k. Alot of top posters here pull in that much, hell ill probably do that this year.

I wouldn't worry about Matusow paying that debt.

A.) he's a winning player (to what degree i don't know, but I heard he's a strong O8 player).

b.) he's got large lines of credit with top players which will keep him in action

c.) he owns a peice of Full Tilt Poker which I'm sure is worth between $5MM-$15MM / %pt (given the current valuation of pokersites). I'm sure he could easily get loans against his ownership from other top players or possibly even the site. If i had to guess he owns somewhere between 1/4% and 2% of the company.

id be very surprised if he had a 5M plus stake in that site based on his actions and my interactions with him.
