I think the only purpose to betting the turn is to get the showdown for free unless we spike a 9 or something. Our line hasn't given us any information about villain's hand - he could be taking this exact line with AJ, JJ or a fancy KQ. Betting won't really help us narrow it down, either, except that we know if we get called we're probably beat, and if he folds we were probably ahead.

check/call non aces seems reasonable.

if an ace falls and he checks, bet to bluff.

I think we should bet for value. To me it looks like he missed the flop, fired a c-bet, got called, and is giving up. I would charge him to draw. If he pulls a C/R then I'm giving him credit for the K and folding.

Charge him to draw to 6 outs on the turn?

So... like... bet 1/6 the pot?

[/ QUOTE ]

No, bet around 1/2 the pot. Were trying to make a draw unprofitable while at the same time representing a stronger hand than we have.

this is a very straightforward check behind/call any reasonable river bet

any turn c/r takes you off of the best hand, and he can do that with a lot of hands, many of which aren't beating you

all hands behind are folding to a turn bet, some are c/r you off the hand, and all hands that are ahead are giving you action.

keep the pot small and get to showdown

Check, induce a river bluff, get to showdown cheap.

Here's my problem with checking behind on the turn.

If he does have TT-QQ, he can safely and correctly assume we don't have the K and can charge us whatever he feels like on the river. Since our line is to induce a bluff, were going to pay it off anyways.

Also, if any card higher than 9 comes on the river and he puts out a strong bet, I don't think we can call. We could easily be folding to a bluff we induced him to make.

For eveybody who says call all non A rivers...what range of hands do you put a relatively tight solid player on when they bet the river?

If we bet the turn and get called what do you perceive foshio's range as?

A PP(probably bigger than ours), a big flush draw, or maybe he's getting fancy with trip Ks...but that seems less likely.

Part of the reason I like betting is because I don't think he will bet on the river often without a hand that beats us. This means that by betting on the turn, we control the bet size and can possibly get some action from a flush draw. Our position also allows us to check behind the river often if we get called.

Everyone is saying he will never fold TT-QQ... will he fold 88? I'm not completely sure he never folds TT or JJ. QQ probably calls a lot. If he magically folds any hand worse than ours and calls with any hand better than ours, I think betting is still good because of our power to check behind most of the time on the river. Also, as a tight, relatively solid player, I don't see him check raising the turn with AQ very often.

I agree. If he wants to make a move with a hand we beat, good for him, he can have it. It takes some big stones to C/R the turn with air.

Without looking at the other posts in the thread, I'm betting 2/3 pot to protect my hand from something like AJ, plus you might fold out higher PPs. If called, don't put any more money in.
