Re: wow i hate live poker
[ QUOTE ]
Live poker is vastly superior to internet poker. Internet poker is not poker, it's internet poker. I'd have to consider as suspect at best anyone who preferred sitting in front of their computer playing internet poker to actually playing poker in a casino with other live human beings. From the tenor of the initial post, I'm guessing that OP likes to 10 table and waits for AA, KK, QQ or set before he plays a hand. [/ QUOTE ] I've done both and have to say that I find online to be a much better experience in all regards. Pros of online poker IMHO: 1. It is more profitable per hour 2. Lower variance (due to 16X more hands per hour) 3. Better atmosphere - My home office is much nicer than any poker room I have ever been in 4. I can choose to not interact at all with my fellow players. Poker players are generally unpleasant people and I do not enjoy being their company in any way. 5. Online dealers have the absolute best personality. They truly STFU and deal. They also effectively control the game and police angle shoots. 6. My risk of contracting a communicable disease is much less in my house than if I am handling virus infested chips. 7. Cheaper drinks (no free alcohol in casinos where I live). 8. Better selection of food. Also, I can eat while playing without running a MAJOR risk of disease. 9. More convienent. I don't waste time driving to the casino, waiting for a game, etc. Pros of B&M poker: 1. Occasional hot female players, dealers and/or coctail waitresses. 2. VERY occasional decent/interesting people. 3. Ability to increase profits by using physical tells (helps to somewhat offset the lower hands per hour, increased rake, and tips/jackpot drop). 4. Good practice in building my discipline by sitting through an extremely boring activity without committing suicide. About the only way that I could see someone prefering B&M would be if they prefer the company of poker players to their other acquaintences (this makes me sad just thinking about the poor soul whose friends are worse than poker players). Another reason would be if you were paranoid about online sites being rigged (but were also confident that B&M games were free from cheaters and angle shooters). |

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] I'd have to consider as suspect at best anyone who preferred sitting in front of their computer playing internet poker to actually playing poker in a casino with other live human beings. [/ QUOTE ] However, when the die hard internet groupies do venture into the live poker room, it is often extremely +EV for live regulars. There is nothing like sitting down at a NL table with sunglass wearing kids in Party Poker hats making min raises. [/ QUOTE ] Indeed. [/ QUOTE ] dude, those clowns are bad online. of course they're bad live too. i love playing live but also rarely get to do so given my location and the game selection in northern california, not including lake tahoe. the indian casinos feature stupid shortbuy NL games and huge jackpot drops - these things are not "poker," they are the casinos' efforts to turn their poker rooms into gamblefests. playing $1/2 NL with $100 and dealing with allin donkeys preflop pushing twice an orbit is nothing compared to sitting with 250BBs and making decisions on four streets. the first sums up my options to play live outside of vegas or tahoe and the second is commonly what i face online. there is a lot of condescension in this forum toward online play and online players, and it's greatly overdone. i know there are a lot of die hards in here who scoff at online, but the blind arrogance is pretty silly. i took a long while to venture online but have benefitted greatly - i get to play more hands per hour, face countless more challenging situations and generally play against a better field. how hard is it really to beat a live NL game where a raise of up to 1/10 a buyin preflop brings six people to the flop, all of them holding trash like ace-rag, rag-rag suited, K7o and similar trash? i love live play and respect that it is the original and pure version of the game, but i've grown to love online, too. |

I play both a lot and while online is consistantly more profitable and convenient, live is infinately more enjoyable for all the reasons mentioned.
Online is very challenging but not really that fun, except of course the winning part. |

Re: wow i hate live poker
I love B&M. I am playing OL because I figured out I can play a full year in 3 weeks. And wow, even though I don't know a lick about triple draw, I can learn for free.
But honestly, when I run up enough to play mid-high stakes, back to B&M for me. |

[/ QUOTE ] I'm not trying to be difficult, but the only reasons that I have seen mentioned are: 1) Human interaction; 2) Handling cards/chips; and 3) General atmosphere. I can handle cards and chips away from a poker room and I can get the equivalent of the other "benefits" by hanging out in the welfare office. Do people really enjoy hanging out in a card room with poker players versus, I don't know, anything else? Maybe I am jaded, but I have rarely met lower quality individuals than I see in a poker room. |

Re: wow i hate live poker
Thus far, the only conclusion made has been that poker players are the equivalent to ocean scum, does that include us? I guess it does...
