Re: Silly question re: bottled beer / top shelf booze in Vegas.
Most Vegas poker rooms do not serve top shelf booze, but you can ge the good stuff at the high end rooms.
As far as top quality drinks go, I'd have to say that Venetian and Wynn have the category on lockdown. Both serve super-premium drinks. Pretty much whatever you ask for is available to all poker players. Venetian's drinks might even be better than Wynn's. A buddy ordered a double Red Bull Grey Goose last week at the $1/2 NL game, and it was served in the largest frigg'n glass I've ever seen in a poker room. He didn't stop at just one either. They were flow'n all night long. |

Re: Silly question re: bottled beer / top shelf booze in Vegas.
At least at one point, Gentleman Jack was Wynns default whiskey. IE, if you order any generic whiskey or wiskey mixed drink, they used Gentleman Jack, not regular Jack.
I think it may also have been the case with Grey Goose and vodka. On at least a couple of occasions I heard someone ask for a cranberry vodka, and then when it was brought the patron said "oh, I meant to order Grey Goose" and the waitress said that it was Grey Goose. |

Re: Silly question re: bottled beer / top shelf booze in Vegas.
[ QUOTE ]
Regarding the tipping, the reason I mentioned it specifically (with regard to $1 per drink) is that I see so many tourists at the table order TWO drinks (i.e. a Fiji water and a beer), but only give $1 total. $1 per drink is fine (more is, of course, fine too), but it is as if they don't realize that it is the service of bringing two drinks (and taking up double the room on the tray) that they are paying for, not the drink itself. [/ QUOTE ] I tip $1 for one drink or two. I'll go to 2 or 3 dollars only if I'm getting above average service (ie. fast, remembering what I've been ordering, really cute.. uh I mean really professional, etc.) I don't believe that the effort to bring two drinks instead of 1 is that much more work. Nor do I really believe that the service required to get 1 drink is worth $1 but since thats the lowest chip denomination, thats what they get. You know what I hate? People who feel the need to rant about what other people tip. You tip whatever the hell you feel like it, and I'll tip what I want to. |

Re: Silly question re: bottled beer / top shelf booze in Vegas.
I live here and go on many a drunken poker session so though I'd chime in.
As said, the best drinks as mentioned are at Wynn and Venetian as far as drink quality. Top shelf stuff, never turned down for anything. Wynn can SOMETIMES be really slow, usually pretty quick. V has been uniformly quick. I hate the Bellagio room so can't comment much but they have been really slow while i was there. But I gotta put in a plug for the MGM: The MGM has great drink service and you can get away with anything there. They will bring two at a time, shots for the whole table, etc and as long as you don't vomit on the dealer they don't seem to care. I once gave the floor guy $20 to rack the mountain of $1 chips in front me up (at $3-6 - $800!) because I didn't think I could do it myself (I could barely see the table) and he actually asked me if I was switching tables or leaving. So appanrently I wasn't cut off! I have seen people cut off at the Wynn but never at MGM. The downside is they don't have all the premium stuff but if I was gonna just get really lit with a bunch of guys that would be where I would go. As with most things in life, it is a quantity vs quality issue.... |

I'll grant you
[ QUOTE ] You tip whatever the hell you feel like it, and I'll tip what I want to. [/ QUOTE ] but [ QUOTE ] I don't believe that the effort to bring two drinks instead of 1 is that much more work. [/ QUOTE ] It's not that it's double effort, it's that your second drink takes up a spot on the tray that could be occupied by a drink for someone who's going to toke the second buck. Say you have a 20-drink tray and can bring it out full for 20 people for 20 tips or full for 10 people for 10 tips. Think of the long run. Really, has 2+2 taught you nothing? Now, where'd that horse get to? Oh, and I've never been to Vegas, so I know nothing about the drink service, except that based on this thread and many others I envy it greatly. It sounds as if the worst of it is way better than the best we get here on the east coast. |
