[ QUOTE ] "Best teams ever?" The Steelers are very good, but I'd think that comment is a drunken boast. [/ QUOTE ] I won't deny that I'm TORE UP right now, but I seriously believe that. No other #6 seed has went to the SB, let alone beating the #1, #2 & #3 seed. Add that to the fact that if they beat Seattle (#1 seed in the NFC), I really think this team will go down in history. [/ QUOTE ] this makes their path to the SB a difficult one, but it doesn't qualify them as "greatest team ever". the #1 seed was a team that hadn't played a meaningful game in a month, and has a very checkered playoff past. the #3 seed lost their star QB 1 minute into the game. and the #2 seed was a good team, but with flaws. as for Seattle, well they would have been the 4th or 5th best team in the AFC. don't get me wrong - the Steelers are playing great football, and I give them huge respect for this run. But "greatest team ever" talk b/c of it is ridiculous. |

I don't know where to look up all of them. Here are some teams that should be in the mix. Obviously there are a ton of great options at the #1 and #2 seed.
Best 1 Seed '85 Bears, '72 Dolphins Best 2 Seed '88 Niners, '92 Cowboys Best 3 Seed '74 Steelers Best 4 Seed '00 Ravens, '97 Broncos Best 5 Seed '85 Pats |

[ QUOTE ]
If Pittsburgh wins the SB, it will go down as one of the best teams ever because of that fact. [/ QUOTE ] The Steelers haven't been dominant enough to be one of the best ever. I could see them being in the top 20 or so, but I think the memory will be of this year's AFC field as one of the strongest from top to bottom ever. |

Say what you want about Peter King, but he knows his football. He called the Steelers the best #6 seed ever and he is in fact, correct. [/ QUOTE ] He also called the Steelers the most dominant team in ever in October of '04. He doesn't know football, but this time he just happens to be correct. |

Now that I'm sober I can explain myself. I used a bad choice of words when I was drunk last night. I meant that this Steelers team, if they win the SB, will become one of those teams you remember forever. Sort of like the 72 Dolphins for what they did and the 85 Bears.
You might not remember every SB team, but when a #6 seed beats #1, #2 & #3 on the road and then goes and beats the #1 seed in the NFC for a SB victory, that will make the 05-06 Steelers one of those special teams. |

I can't believe that anyone is getting worked up over seeding. There hasn't been a 6th seed for long enough to make being the best 6th seed ever a big deal.
Worry about the superbowl, not the seeding. |

Worry about the superbowl, not the seeding. [/ QUOTE ] I don't care about the seeding, never have. If you want to rank the teams though, Steelers weren't a #6 seed going into the playoffs. They just hit a rough patch this year with injuries that made their road to get to the playoffs a hard one. However (I feel like I'm Steven A now), there has never been a #6 seed in the SB. There has only ever been 1 other team to win 3 road playoff games. When something that has never happened happens, that's always going to be a big deal in sports. |

There have been two #5 seeds to make it to the NCAA finals. If the Steelers lose the Superbowl, being the 6th seed that made the Superbowl will mean about as much to them as it does to those two teams that you don't remember.
