Re: I make banks run out of hundreds
[ QUOTE ]
Fifties are real money too you know. I wouldnt make a big deal over it. [/ QUOTE ] Ok, here's a little secret - wanna know why I desire hundreds so much? About a year ago, when I was still young and impressionable, at the Borgata with Lazy Meatball, Dids, and Daryn... Daryn gets into a catfight with the floor, and tells him he'll tip him $100 to shut up. Floor says, "you can't afford that," Daryn pulls out his roll and FANS IT AT HIM. The roll was very thick, and all Benjamins. BAD. ASS. Daryn is my role model, and this is the real reason I am pissy over $50s. jk. sorta. |

Re: I make banks run out of hundreds
[ QUOTE ]
So, it seems like I'm in that awkward phase where this is a problem. Because, you high rollers probably just wire your money. And low rollers can probably always get what you need. But as a mid-stakes player, when I need roughly $3-5k for a trip and don't happen to have all of it sitting in my drawer leftover from last time, I seem to run into this hassle. [/ QUOTE ] I'm hardly a mid-stakes player, but I've started keeping a moderate sum (about the amount that I would take for a weekend) on deposit at Foxwoods. In one sense it's a bad deal because they're helping themselves to my float. But it's no different than a checking account, and I don't have to fool with getting money from there to the bank account and back. The real issues are, if I have a big winning day, what do I do with the excess? (I don't want to keep all my bankroll in a non-interest-bearing account, that's stupid.) And if I want to play somewhere else (e.g. this weekend, headed to Atlantic City), do I keep enough liquid in addition, because I don't want to have to pass through Foxwoods en route to somewhere else? |

Re: I make banks run out of hundreds
Hmmmm....interesting story.
Didn't know Daryn was such a bad-ass. Instead of taking it over to the other bank you could just take it to the cage at the casino, couldn't you? If they make you buy chips with your cash then you can just buy chips and then turn right around and cash them in for 100's. I also think that fanning the floor guy with a double-size wad of 50's would pretty much accomplish the same effect. I'm always getting $600 worth of $20's out of the ATM which can be ultra-annoying. $100's are preferrable for the casino. But after the casino you need the smaller bills because lots of places look at you like you're an alien if you try to purchase something with a Benjamin (which really shouldn't be happening when I'm driving back from Tunica because it should be pretty obvious where I got the $100 bill from) |

Re: I make banks run out of hundreds
Call in advance net time. Also some banks might save $100 bills for the $10,000 wraps that are commonly seen in high limit tables.

Re: I make banks run out of hundreds
The mention of the $500 bill caused me to look up large denomination currency on wikipedia
Wiki here I also found a funny article about two clerks who accepted a $200 bill in 2004 (I made a thread about it in OOT) |

Re: I make banks run out of hundreds
I think more ATMs should use 100's, it would make things much easier.

But after the casino you need the smaller bills because lots of places look at you like you're an alien if you try to purchase something with a Benjamin ... [/ QUOTE ] And yet, 35 years ago and about 500% inflation ago $20's where the standard high denomination bill and caused no trouble. $500's definitely need to be returned to circulation. I once annoyed my local fly-by-night credit union by asking for $1200 about 5pm. Teller sighed really loudly and shouted back asking if they had any spare cash today. "no". She then took a tally of how much cash the other drawers had and finally decided they might be able to get through the next hour before closing even if they gave me the cash, so I got it. (That credit union went bankrupt shortly after that.) I once asked for about $4K from the bank I choose to replace that CU and they hadda go back to the vault to get it, but it was not a problem for 'em. Manager said they'd like to know a day in advance if someone wants more than about $10K in cash. MUCH more reasonable. If they want to keep only a couple grand in each drawer to make the loss from a heist smaller, that's fine, long as they have a supply they can get to somewhere. |
