Fifty-five players under par right now with a good possibility of 60+ being under par by the end of the day. This is playing more like the B.C. Open than the British Open. I've got a good feeling we won't be seeing another British Open played on this course. Sort of a shame the wind isn't up so that we could really get a feel for what types of scores would be posted in trying conditions.

It is the first day. It rained a lot during the night. It is expected to get tougher. In any event, don't get so worried about par. It will be alright.

How come Ballesteros and Watson are not on the list? They're both in the field and they've won three or four dozen of 'em between 'em. Of course the last one was in 1874, but still . . .

I like Phil's chances a lot.

What was the Woods/Faldo spat about?

[/ QUOTE ]

Faldo did his job as an analyst and said something critical of Tiger. Tiger is hyper-sensitive about anything remotely negative people say about him.

Yeah, the odds on Tiger are often poor, and there was some big money bet on him according to some news reports. But betting against Tiger often isn't profitable either.

No offense to Euro, but given his record and despite his swing coach's statements about changing his game to fit this event, I can NOT believe Phil's odds in this event. He has what, ONE top ten in 13 tries? That's terrible. If he were applying for a credit card using that history, he'd have about a 500 rating.

Sentimental favorite = Moonty. Actual favorites = Paddy Harrington or James Furyk. Overrated = Tiger.

[/ QUOTE ]

+450 is the highest odds Tiger has seen in a major this century.

Monty the sentimental favorite? For who??? Maybe some of the Euros, but we loathe him in the states. I was quite ecstatic to see him blow up on 18 in the US Open.

What are Tiger's odds usually like? I don't keep up on that stuff much but I'm curious if you happen to remember.

If Tiger doesn’t go low on Thursday (and I’m talking 67 or 68 b/c low scores will abound) I predict he won’t be a factor on the weekend.

[/ QUOTE ]
This is really surprising and almost makes me think you haven't watched many major championships. Do you really think Tiger has to go low on day 1 to have a shot? '97 Masters?
