I did not like the Loaiza signing. It was a lot of money and years for a guy who probably wasn't that good...

maybe the A's are better off signing no SP at all, but compare loaiza (coming off two good seasons in three, both backed up by his peripherals) at 3 years/21 to jarrod washburn at 4 years/38.

it really wasn't that bad, as 3/21 is the going rate for averageish pitchers. it's overpaying in absolute terms, though.
best signings were either kenny rogers (worked well) or jeff weaver (did not work well)
