I've loosened up a lot recently and now seem to be in the low 30s. Feels like everything is in order but obviously statistical "proof" would require an enormous sample.
One thing I've noticed as I've worked my way up the ladder at 2+2 and in the games is that good high-limit players defend much more than good low-limit players. Almost all the high-limit posters I consider to be truly outstanding are defending a great many hands. So do most of the practical players that I really wish would move to another table. I think in this datamining world there is an important Shania aspect to defending a lot. People see your VP$IP and Folded BB to Steal stats and they pick on you if you seem too tight. This is directly important because it affects how often they steal and also how comfortable the SB feels about defending in front of you. In the bigger picture I want to be someone that other good players don't go out of their way to play hands against. If they don't think of me as being weak then they won't always be trying to steal from me. Which allows me to worry less while I make the important postflop folds with serious EV at stake. |
