Re: US - Italy World Cup Soccer - one of the games of our time
Comparing the Italian soccer team to the 1980 USSR hockey team is a joke.

Re: US - Italy World Cup Soccer - one of the games of our time
ummm....this game is not good for soccer in the US
it is a sign of why the sport fails miserably here it was a swirl of controversy with the US announcers clearly sending the impression that US was robbed how is that good? |

Re: US - Italy World Cup Soccer - one of the games of our time
I agree, great platform to get soccer out to casual fans.
Announcers pretty much murdered any chance of a casual fan seeing anything good about soccer. And all things considered, game got pretty good around 65-85 mins with both sides having good chances despite showing signs of fatigue. |

The U.S. played great, got screwed by a ref, and now have a chance to advance past round robin play which I compare to making the Sweet 16 in NCCA bball. Whenever my Tar Heels make the Sweet 16 I feel good about it and if US Soccer advances past group play two WCs in a row I will be equally pumped. Mock us all you want. |

Can I just point out that the British fan base was overwelmingly in support of the Americans. The French hate the Italians. The Germans hate the Italiians, The Poles hate the Italians, The Austrians hate the Italians. [/ QUOTE ] O Rly I didn't realize this. I mean, I know there's several intraEuro rivalries over there, but I've always had the impression that American hatred unites them all..arrogant thinking? What about France-England and France-Germany - do they still hate each other or is that all in the past? And why do the French/Germans hate the Italians? |

The European refs were in the can [/ QUOTE ] The ref wasn't even European. Jesus, I mean, one thing is that most Americans don't have a fing clue about soccer, but I expect at least people from 2p2 (don't know why really) to have some clue. Both red cards were fair, find an article in all soccer news in the world that says otherwise. Just stop whining. US played well this match but to see their performance as heroic or against all odds is hilarious. |
