Daveymck, I think Walcott's selection had a lot more to do with deflecting some of the media attention off of Rooney as much as it had to do with getting him some experience for the future. Sven has nothing to gain by planting some seeds for the future

[/ QUOTE ]

Sven doesnt but Maclaren does, we dont know what influence he had on the squad selection and he has shown at Boro he will bring youth through.

However that is a possibility as well, but anyone over here will tell you it was as effective as a certain US players ball control, the media attention on Rooneys foot especially the scans last week were total overblown madness.

carragher is a fine replacement to neville as he is a quality all-round defender. i dont understand the hate towards walcott, defoe could of easily come along if hargreaves, jenas or stuart downing were dropped. Why for the love of god did lennon get picked over Shawn W-P???

England's support of its soccer team reminds me of my support for Maryland's men's basketball team ...

"Drive to the basket, Caner-Medley! ... Drive! What are ... A FALLAWAY JUMPER FROM 22 FEET?!?! HJKKJGDSGFEWBFVYDS!!!! OK, get back on defense. Get ba ... GET BACK ON ... WHAT THE HELL IBEKWE YOU AREN'T EVEN RUNNING OMG FAST-BREAK DUNK YOU GUYS SUCK HJHJXDVGHDUSVB!!!"

[/ QUOTE ]

Give Caner-Medley a break. Can you imagine how broken your brain would be if you kept having to explain that no, there's no C, but there is a hyphen?

Never. Not in a million years. I can't tell you how glad I am to see him gone.

... That's a very good point.

On that note, it's amazing how parents' choices of names just torture their kids for years to come. Amy? Nah, Aimee. Kim? No, Kem, but pronounced the same! Or Kym. Kym's good. Corey, Cory, Coree, Cori, or put a K at the start of all of them. And then people call me and ask how I spelled it wrong in the paper. Gee, I don't know, genius.

Good luck with that. I actually thought he was a pretty good player.

Which is more than you can say for a few of the Trinidad team

They should play Walcott He plays like a fit & youthful Owen:

From his days at Southampton

Days at Southampton being the key phrase there. Thats Division 1 football, not premiership. He made 20+ starts for 5 goals. If you want to make the England team from the second tier of English football then you should either be destorying the division (IE close to a goal a game) or you should be playing well and have a proven track record in the top flight. Since Walcott has done niether the taking him on ability arguemnet doesn't even get off the ground.

The only legitimate arguement for taking him is the 'ease him in for later tournaments' arguement mentioned above. If that is Sven's plan then it means he's sacrificing a squad place, which is debateable at the best of times, but absolute suicide when you're only taking three other strikers, two of whom arn't fit.
