Straddling is great for the game. When the game sucks, I always suggest we all be team players and straddle. Most will join in with the team concept of everyone's gambling it up.

You always have a few nits who refuse, but that's ok. I was in a 2-5 NL game where 6 people called and this nit folded his SB for $3 more. Guys like that are more annoying than a fkn head cold. Good news is, they're usually the passive type who pay off like ATM's. Ironic how they don't see how not being the gambling type cripples them.

ppl also straddle a lot in pot limit games so that the bring in is larger

[/ QUOTE ]

In pot limit games a "Mississippi straddle" is popular where the button can straddle making the blinds act first preflop. If you are in a game wehre you can straddle on the button you shoudl do so.

[/ QUOTE ]

When you say "blinds act first preflop", are you saying the action goes SB, BB, table, then the Mississippi straddle button? Instead of UTG going first and jumping over the straddle?

This would be different than a normal straddle (if allowed anywhere other than UTG) where the order of action would be

- in the normal order until you jump over the straddler, then the rest of the table, then the straddler has "last" initial action (whether live straddle or not)

??

I played my first live NL cash game at a casino this weekend. I did well, despite my lack of experience... making 76 BB in 3 1/2 hours. Is that good?

First live NL game in a casino. Yes, that is good.

I never get mad when people straddle. I personally will not do it but it does have a way of loosening up a table when everyone (or almost everyone) gets in the spirit. However, a straddle does not necessarily mean the table will loosen up but in my experience, it happens more often than not.

If you play well post-flop (where most of the money in any deep game is made), if your preflop straddle throws players off, it may be worth the price.

Limit is probably 50%-50% between Preflop and Postflop play (maybe I am off a bit, I haven't played limit in a few years). No Limit is probably closer to 25%-75%. Straddling in no limit isn't going to cost you as much value in the long run as straddling in limit. But according to my PokerTracker stats, I am actually up money from hands I posted in my blinds.

Yes, this makes it different than a "kill" as used in some places. If the button posts the MS straddle the action starts to his left (the SB). I have only seen MS straddle allowed in PL. With the rise of NL there might be places using it in a NL game also.

About 2 weeks ago, I started straddling at a 1/2 NL table that was seeing 6-7 limpers (everyone folds to a raise) for a few orbits. Guy in the BB called me every name in the book and explained why I didn't understand what I was doing. When he got up for a bathroom break, I informed the dealer that I was straddling every orbit that Big Mouth remained at the table. It was a very profitable move for me.
