Phil Hellmuth, Sr. 10. Jerry Buss Ship it. [/ QUOTE ] Surely there's a place for Ken Warren |

If you want to make a poker legends list, just take the poker hall of fame:

If you want to make a poker legends list, just take the poker hall of fame: http://www.pokerpages.com/pokerinfo/hallofame/ [/ QUOTE ] Problem is that doesn't account for modern legends. Hell, even defining legendary is tough here. I'd take it to mean those who have done the most to capture public attention in the context of their times, or those who have transcended the status of 'just another poker player', guys who make the room stop. Contributions to the game have to figure in too. I think ranking them is pretty impossible, but these guys could make the list: Brunson, Ungar Moss Chan Baldwin Hellmuth Ivey Reese Binion Slim Hansen Jack Binion Moneymaker Fossilman There are a bunch of guys in the HoF whose games and actions were legendary, but recognition has to be part of the equation, doesn't it? |

This list is missing Danny Nguyen, and Robert Varkonyi should be at or near the top. I'm sure that Lance Funston will be added to this list in later editions.

"Top Ten Poker Legends" [/ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] 4. Phil Hellmuth [/ QUOTE ] In his own mind. What about the two ten bracelet winners? [ QUOTE ] 7. Greg Raymer [/ QUOTE ] Greg seems like a nice guy. Legend, no. [ QUOTE ] 8. Mike Matusow [/ QUOTE ] Mike must have held some drugs for these guys once. [ QUOTE ] 9. Dave "Devilfish" Ulliot [/ QUOTE ] Hmmmm, how on earth did they pull his name out for this list? [ QUOTE ] 10. Phil Gordon [/ QUOTE ] This is the funniest f'ing thing I've read in awhile. |

lol, ok, ok. I know within the enclosed poker community Moneymaker isn't going to get that kindof respect, but I think 'legendary' has to in part be judged on public perception. Moneymaker's the everyman who convinced the other everymen they could do it too. It wasn't intentional, some would argue it wasn't skillfull but it was what it was. I doubt he makes my list, but he has to be mentioned in the conversation.
Jack Binion is the other end of the spectrum. Supreme respect from the inner circle, no face with the at home viewer. Again, probably not making the list, but I want him in the discussion. I've always been biased towards the builders of game culture. |

Really, there should be two sperate lists. 1. Legendary Players 2. Legendary contributors to the game. |
