If you're talking about $1500 for both of you, you will have a hard time finding anything reasonable for 2 people in Manhattan, unless you are willing to share a bed.
If you're talking about $1500 each, then you will have no problem finding a good place in almost any area. Granted, it might have to be a 1 bedroom converted in some areas, but those can be quite spacious. As to using a broker, I think it is not necessary, but it will save you a lot of time and energy. If you are looking to avoid a broker, try buildings that have a management office in them where you can just walk-in and rent an apartment or try to take over someone's lease. Good luck! NYC is awesome! |

general neighborhood advice. although it may seem appealing to live somewhere near where you are working, you do not want to live in or around midtown, it is a horrible place and you will likely hate it. if I were you I would look in flatiron/gramercy, east/west village, and williamsburg as a starting point.
doorman is not that big a deal, the only reason a doorman is nice is because of package delivery. a walk up is good exercise (I live in elevator building and take the stairs 85% of the time). |
