Am I the only disappointed person? I laughed very rarely during the thing... and believe me, as far as Colbert fans, I'm as big as they come. Funniest show on TV period. But he didn't seem completely "on" to me or something.

I guess I'm alone here?

[/ QUOTE ]Hearing the laughter of others strongly affects what we find funny, and few people were laughing in that room because he was ripping into all of them.

the video at the end did kinda suck, and I suspect the first half of his speech was better.

If anyone find the first half, post it!

It's already on various filesharing networks that the kids find popular these days, FWIW.

How the hell did he ever get booked in the first place? Surely SOMEONE must have realized how scathing and awkward that was going to be?

[/ QUOTE ]

have you guys ever seen one of these before? having it be awkward and scathing is the primary focus. colbert was a joke compared to the stuff that usually gets said. go find clips from some of the other years. this was nothing.

[/ QUOTE ]

This was no big deal at all. I'm sure the President and his staff expected something just like this.

Every President goes to events ike this.

I just downloaded the smaller file (the one on the left). It took 2 mins. or so after I clicked to get a download prompt box.

As one of the few people who actually watched this live on c-span last night, I have a couple of things that bear mentioning.

Bush was on immediately before Colbert and absolutely killed. I am not anything close to a fan of the president, but his bit last night was genuinely funny. I don't know if it's out there on the internet, but if it is you should check it out. Colbert not only had to follow the president, and roast him from 10 feet away (which is necessarily a little awkward), but he pretty much had to use the same material that Bush just did. It's hard to follow someone who just made fun of himself with more of the same. Because of these factors, the crowd wasn't too into it.
