Goodfellas or Big Lebowski?

never even seen Lebowski.

actually picked it up last week before my china trip and never even opened it.

if it doesn't hold up to goodfellas, i'm going to cut it into a chinese throwing star and hunt each of you down.

That's why I posted it. Just seemed like a very close call in terms of quality, rewatchability, strength of cast etc. I can't believe it's still tied.

It's a totally different sort of movie, but easily one of the best comedies of all time. If you like Goodfellas I assume you have a good taste in movies, ergo you will love The Big Lebowski.

In my experience, pretty much everyone loves Goodfellas. Not exactly the best measuring stick for taste in movies.

Big Lebowski....Because it has a happier ending.
Both are good movies but Goodfellas towards the end starts getting dark and depressing and leaves you with an unpleasant feeling. Lebowski leaves you feeling more upbeat...

The Big Lebowski is funny, quirky, and entertaining throughout the entire movie... While the ending of Goodfellas is a downer. You know what I mean.....Dude?

Everyone loves Goodfellas because they are SUPPOSED to love Goodfellas. If somebody doesn't love it there is something wrong w/ him (or her. You always have to think of the 'or her' these days, even in that once male-only haven known as 'the poker world'.) OTOH, The Big Lebowski is a Coen brothers movie and although they are my favorite moviemakers I understand why some people don't like them. OTOH, other hand, The Big Lebowski is a riot. The Coen's really do come up w/ some funny, weird stuff.

The Big Lebowski.

I really enjoy Goodfellas, but to me, there are several movies very similar to it in both style and quality. I mean, several Scorsese movies and even the Godfather trilogy all have the whole mob thing wrapped up.

Lebowski, on the other hand, is unique and quirky. You will not watch a lot of comedies that are very much like it.

Also, I enjoy The Big Lebowski more seemingly every time I watch it. The first five times or so, I picked up something funny that I never even noticed in previous viewings.

Both are really good though.

Great comedy is more difficult to write than something like Goodfellas. TBL is superior, but will never get as much respect, just because its a comedy. Goodfellas is really just another mob movie, with mostly annoying characters. Most of the acting in it is by character actors, so if you've seen Casino and Godfather you've already seen Goodfellas.

The Big Lebowski has a more complex plot and a better cast playing original characters. Why would you want to watch Deniro and company playing themselves when you can see John Goodman playing a psycho-vet, PS Hoffman playing a sycophantic personal assistant, J Moore playing high-brow modern artist, and Bridges as the dude? Every character in Lebowski is awesome.

You know exactly whats going to happen from the beginning of Goodfellas. Not so with Lebowski.

Sorry I dont understand how anyone could dislike either of these movies unless they had some pyschological aversion to violence. If you dont like these movies then I will simply conclude that you have absolute horrible taste in film.
