Re: Top five most significant historical events of the past 2100 years
[ QUOTE ]
The black plague killed anywhere from 1/3 to 2/3 of Europe's population not the whole world. [/ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Estimates of the demographic impact of the plague in Asia are based on both population figures during this time and estimates of the disease's toll on population centres. The initial outbreak of plague in the Chinese province of Hubei in 1334 claimed up to ninety percent of the population, an estimated five million people. During 1353–54, outbreaks in eight distinct areas throughout the Mongol/Chinese empires may have caused the death of two-thirds of China's population, often yielding an estimate of twenty-five million deaths. Re: Top five most significant historical events of the past 2100 years
I don't know much about the East, so this list will be limited to Western civilization.
1. St. Paul's conversion to Christianity and subsequent creation of the Church. 2. Rise of the Ottoman Empire 3. The Crusades 4. The American Revolution and Civil War 5. Bolshevik revolution and WWI |

what about africa, NA, SA, Australia and the rest of asia? [/ QUOTE ] To be blunt, what did those areas contribute to 'Modern Civilization'? The Black Death affected the two main centers of "Progress". Edit to add: You found the Wiki article. It discusses the effects of the Black Death to society, commerce, etc. |

[/ QUOTE ] to be blunt the post didnt say what the plague did to the two main centers of progress (otherwise i wouldnt be bringing up this point) what it did say is that it killed 2/3 of the WORLD population which is not true, regardless what you contribute just being alive you are counted in the world population. statement in question: "two thirds of the population of humanity world wide"-that is wrong. if you want to say "two thirds of the population of humanity world wide that are the two main centers of Progress"- better best thing to say is "two thirds of the population of europe and china" |
