[/ QUOTE ]

I'm holding one in my hands right now, it's got Carlos Mortensen on the cover.

And now I can see that Sklansky humor is alive and well.

Default Direct Quote From Article

I have the article right in front of me and I am going to copy word for word the last two paragraphs of Todd Brunson's article. Perhaps by reading this part of the article you guys might get Sklansky's joke. Here is the direct quote:

"This year, I hope to make my own luck. What can I do to have a better tournament than last year? I know that I was more focused in 2005 than I was last year, so there's a start. There will be a lot more events this year, so that will also help my odds. If I can play in at least half of the events, I should make at least a few final tables and, hopefully, win a bracelet or two (or even three).

My dad has many sayings that he refers to as "Doyleisms". My favorite is, "Luck is what happens when hard work meets determination". God knows I am determined, and if I can work hard enough, who knows what might happen? Like I said, this year, I hope to make my own luck." (end of quote)

The only column I find interesting each issue is Jim McManus' column.

I don't see the joke. Is Dave known for spouting those trite aphorisms, or does he not understand them and take some absurd attention-seeking contrarian position?

I was serious. I found it amazing how he was able to come up with all this stuff. It sort of reminded me, of all things of the lyrics in that Ludacris song where he mentions his Escalade. Both involve a talent that I wish I had.

Is there a chance Todd Brunson was joking in those two last paragraphs that I directly quoted? It seems very ignorant to me. Check out the key words:

Luck is CAUSED by hard work and determination.

Then in he last sentence, he says, "I HOPE to make my own luck".

IN OTHER WORDS: I HOPE that I'll be able to work hard and be determined.

This sounds like he believes that he needs luck in order to work hard and be determined in order to be lucky. This is crazy in that you really don't need luck to work hard and be determined. Both of these things are in your complete control because these are parts of your own behaviors.

Perhaps the Brunson's have a different definition of "luck".

They are both levelling.

TB will get burned out quickly like he did last year. I was at the same table an early event and he looked like a zombie. The Brunsons' def of luck may be that other players are afraid of them. In that case, TB is out of luck.

I suspected DS was levelling at the outset, but when he starts quoting ludicris, that clinches it. Brandi must be feeding her mentor some hip lines to use
