I thought it was pretty good. I'd be interested to hear why you hated it.

[/ QUOTE ]

I didn't hate it but I definitely didn't think it was good.

The cinematography and visual execution was... stunning. Too bad the script sucked. My friend invoked the phrase "absurd, confusing dystopia" - thought it summed up the weakness of this movie.

I think the audience has to buy off on the fact that this future world's British government would take the 1st child born in years, and do something terrible. The human race is at stake and we do not, have a clear understanding, at all, that the baby wouldn't be better off in the government's hands!

So ultimately, this is merely a chase movie where the reasons for fleeing are unclear.

I hate the premise. It's so unbelievable, but the film is so good that it doesn't highlight the reasons why... which is a good thing, because any attempt at explanation would just make it that much more unbelievable.

[/ QUOTE ]

Interesting - I have the complete opposite take on this.

The premise is fantastic - and I don't see why it's so unbelievable. However, with such a high-concept idea driving the whole movie - while you don't have to hit the audience over the head with what's what, you need to define some basic things to allow the audience to buy off on your vision of this future dystopia.

This way, the chase and Julian's mission has some actual meaning and depth.

no,

just like everyone else, I absolutely loved the cinematography...pretty much everyting about the look and sound of the movie was great...

the story just sucked balls all around.

EDIT" also I didn't see any trailers or anything before I went to see it and hadn't heard anything so I was expecting something more like....

I loved the cinematography...I felt like I was really there. However, the only reason I went to see it was to find out why there were no more pregnant women, so you can imagine that the ending was very upsetting. I just wish they wouldn't have set me up like that. I feel like crying.

Fine movie - 7/10

Great cinematography and setting.

Plot and script were disappointing. Julianne Moore gets on my nerves. Clive's character was standard issue protagonist. The worst part was Key.

3 of my friends said it was awful and you have to be an idiot to like it. They didn't really explain why. But I rented it anyway, and I liked it.
