Re: The Legend of Zelda Thread (NES)
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] I beat this game w/ the wooden sword & no ring. Zelda wears the same clothes as the color you have. I usually beat the 2nd lvl first, and get the white sword right away. I don't remember the order, but there were the quickest way to beat it wasn't in order. [ QUOTE ] I think a HUGE part of the greatness of Zelda is the fact that is was a great game, and not some psych 101 babble like feelings of nostalgia. [/ QUOTE ] FYP. Sometimes games are just great. This was one of them. [ QUOTE ] Do you get the letter if you get the medicine if you choose that instead of heart container? [/ QUOTE ] I haven't played in over a decade at least, so I'm relying on old memories, but no. The medicine vanishes into an empty slot. [/ QUOTE ] wow, no ring and wood sword? that is hardcore. I was going to ask if anyone had tried it. You are correct, i tried it, but you can't gain the letter by just picking up medicine from these hidden spots. I thought you needed to beat the 1st and 2nd levels both to get the second sword and not just the 2nd. You need it for the 3rd so those slime guys don't break apart on you. You get the top sword after beating Level-6. It's easy since you are right next to the graveyard. I do like Level-2 because it has my favorite enemy, the snakes. So easy to kill and so profitable. http://www.zeldadungeon.net/Zelda01.php This is probably the best website for all things Zelda, it did show me where that heart container I was missing was. I accidentally saw where the letter for the medicine on the Second Quest was but my searching in what I thought the general area failed to turn up something. [/ QUOTE ] I thought the ability to get the swords were based on your max heart containers. You need 5 for the white sword, so usually you get it after you beat level 2, but if you find two of the heart containers in the overworld, you can get the white sword before you even enter the first labyrinth. |

[/ QUOTE ] Correct. I don't remember exactly, but you need to get a bomb from a shop, or the blue mobs. There's a heart east of where you start, u bomb an opening. Go to lvl 2, kill the boss w/ bombs. Go north, get bomb an opening get another heart, go north get the white sword. I think that's how I usually started the game. |

Re: The Legend of Zelda Thread (NES)
Bombs are usually easy to find, try going toward the NW, kill the blue things octoroks, they appear eventually.
From there you can bomb into 2 hearts, one the big ass rock with the yellow things that hop around, other 3 screens right of where you start. I then go buy the candle, and burn the bush near the 1st dungeon, that gives me 6 hearts. Use the 2 100 free coins(one near level 7, one near level 8 i think), kill some things, and get your 255, get the blue ring, then the white sword, all before the first dungeon. Beat the first 4, get the 2 overworld hearts with the raft and latter, and then go to the cemetary (i used to forget the lost woods combo so I would take the long way, and with 12 hearts get the master sword, and so 6 then so you can get the sweetass wand. edit: also too, a good trick for coins etc when needing potion is to warp to teh graveyard, hit the original with a boomarang, and then just keep letting guys out,and kill hte original, they all drop stuff, until you get what you need and go to the shop right there. |

The Second Quest is still whooping me right now, I beat Level-5 but have no idea where the hell 6 is. I found the letter for medicine and Level-9. I know where 7 is but that is an instant deadend in when I walk in. I think I need to start bombing everywall I see. It saves bombs if you bomb on the cracks, two for the price of one. |

Re: The Legend of Zelda Thread (NES)
The ability to pick up the swords has nothing to do with which castles you've beaten. It is determined by how many heart containers you have. I believe the White Sword needs 5 or 6 containers. I don't remember what the master sword requires.
If you pick up the hidden heart containers sooner you can pick up the better swords sooner. |

Re: The Legend of Zelda Thread (NES)
Master sword is 6, Magical is 12.
Also too, I played that part of the first quest today, took me about 2hrs to get all that and complete the first 4 dungeons |

Re: The Legend of Zelda Thread (NES)
Knowing about only needing 12 containers and not figuring it was due to what levels you beat really saved me in the Second Quest. I've beaten all 8 and am trying to go after 9. I think the makers just decided to screw people up and ramp up the difficulty to the highest level. I'm not sure how many times I've had back to back rooms with Boss creatures in it (with no reward either). The use of the whistle to open hidden places (ala bomb and candle) is an interesting but annoying twist, I ran into the tombstone for Level-6 so many times before trying it out. My biggest concern is not having the Lion Key for Level-9, although it feels like I've searched every possible room and can't find the necessary hidden branches (same for Level 8, I need it's item).

Re: The Legend of Zelda Thread (NES)
I agree, this game is pretty fun (I personally think that Zelda 2: AoL is more fun and more nostalgic) even though it was around before me.
But honestly, is it possible to get everything, or beat the game?, without a guide of some sort because there is no way that someone could figure out that you need to keep going a certain direction in the endless maze, or that the heartpiece (unless there is a hint in the game that I missed) is in a cave in a wall that looks no different than all the other endless amounts of walls in the game. Anyway, fun game and really hard. |

Re: The Legend of Zelda Thread (NES)
It's possible. As a kid I remember I used to take the time to burn every bush and bomb every wall. The Lost Woods thing though, I never understood how I was supposed to figure that out on my own. Trial and error I guess? You have to like write down the paths you've tried or something.

Re: The Legend of Zelda Thread (NES)
doesn't someone tell you about the lost woods somewhere?
and i definitely burned every bush in the game, and blew up every rock. the worst part were those douches who charged you for 'door repair' - [censored] that, it's your fault for living in a sealed cave with monsters outside, i'm not paying for your stupid door - just be lucky you have someone to talk to. |
