i think i win strip club beat.
me and a friend hammered go into a strip club. we each get a girl for about (this was in UK but ill put in $$) $250 each. fine. we are smashed. neither of us can read the drinks menu. so i ask for a bottle of champagne. he then asks which one. as im hammered i say the finest. he takes my credit card (you can see where this leads....) and im certain never gave me a receipt or told me how much. i check online banking a few days later (which was yesterday), they charged me $3,600. i can just remember having about one sip of it.

[/ QUOTE ] Hmm. Seems to me your credit card was lost and you never authorized those charges. You had your wallet stolen that night, right?

UPDATE!!: I went to Aviation club and related this story to a couple of my friends there. They mentioned an unnamed FTP pro who ended up with a 42k euro bill in a Hungary strip club, and they ended up paying it under threat of extreme violence. Probably highly exaggurated, but I will try to find out more.

I realize that things don't work everywhere like in the US. Unfortunately, sometimes I forget. It's a good lesson for me to learn for a few hundred dollars.

You sit down in a strip club, their whole business concept is that you pay too much for drinks (they give you all the prices if you ask and you can set a max limit on the price of the drink). In exchange for the drink you get attention, maybe striptease, maybe something more. When you agree to a "carte blanche" drink, you basically say: "I will pay what it costs".

When I was in Budapest one of the first things I learned was that some of the strip club/lounges were simply mob fronts. The racket is for gorgeous women go to touristy bars and find rich foreigners. They hit on them, flatter them, etc, and then suggest they go to a different place nearby. This is the mob-owned club. There the drink prices are exorbitant - I heard in the area of $500 Euros, but no way of verifying, clearly - and they even have menus printed up with those prices. Obviously the menus are stashed under the bar and only broken out when you're told what your tab is and object. Big, intimidating men pop out of nowhere to make sure you pay your bill. So anyways, its a pretty well-known scam in Budapeset. Kind of surprised it happens in Paris, too, though.
