Neteller has a lot of stock. If they don't pay all the execs will lose a fortune. Keep that in mind.

is anyone else planning to deduct the amount they lose in the neteller debacle from their income tax payment? i'm not talking about not paying taxes on the lost amount, rather deducting the full amount of seized funds from their tax check. obviously illegal, but it strikes me an efficient and poetically just option. after all, the government and i are each still ending up with the same amount of money we would have otherwise.

i wonder if a good lawyer could get me off if i got audited...

The stock has been frozen for weeks. It currently has less value, imho, than NT$. Think Amaranth, Ohio Mattress, EF Hutton, Continental Illinois, Penn Central, et al.

Your statement is definitely true, of course. They will lose a fortune if this doesn't get resolved.

Naj,

If they get this resolved and keep open, they stand a lot more to gain than just sneaking off with some dollars and living like fugitives.

I like how the FAQ keeps changing.
At first, they said the money was safe.
Then they changed that answer and just said the money is in a trust account.

Now they have removed the question altogether.

they attempted to ride the "held in segregated trust accounts" story for as long as possible...

[/ QUOTE ]

So either they've engaged in massive accounting fraud which passed KPMG's audits, or you're just an idiot. Which is it?

You continue to miss my point, EFHutton and DrexelBurnham had a lot more to gain as well, they were just unable to. Circumstances beyond their control shut the companies down overnight.

Someone you trust offers you the $10k in their NT account, which is frozen of course. You are also US citizen and cannot withdraw it for now.

How much would you pay in % terms for this money? 10% 50% 90%? Feel free to give a reason, or not.

[/ QUOTE ]

I would be quite ruthless here and pay only $2000.

As I see it, this would be a very risky investment... i.e. no guaruntee that the money will be released... even if it is released, we would have no idea when it would become available, (which would mean that I could be waiting possibly years for that money)... also the legal language surrounding the case is vague (why won't anyone give a straight answer?), so I would find it hard to assess where I stood on getting that money back out...

At that kind of risk, there is no way I would be willing to tie up anything more than $2k of my money indefinantly...

... then again, this is simply my view as a non-US citizen.

Naj,

Ahhh... I see what you are saying now. I'm very unaware of how high level bribery essentially works. I figured they'd go like Paypal, but who knows.
