I've always kind of liked the idea when it's been mentioned in the past. BBV has pretty much outgrown and evolved from it's original intent. And is now a strong community on it's own. I can't even remember the last time I moved a thread there from SSNL or uNL. We usually just lock up alot of threads (esp in uNL) instead of move them anywhere. uNL would definitely contribute some threads daily to this forum, including a few should I fold KK preflop threads per week.

As far as tuck goes, I've always kinda liked the guy and I think he's a good choice for mod.

As usual, this is to confirm that I've Searched the entire mods' forum for every mention of tuck, tup, tub, etc, and edited them all to read something entirely different so that he won't find out what we really think of the little [censored].

There's plenty of threads too lousy to be in BBV4L. I think the trash dumb would have the hilarious mix of oot/bbv threads, plus poker stuff.

Honestly, this is so close to what's going on in ATF with a different community. If you take the stab/tuq stuff and shift it to trashdumpforum, you may get a better s/n ratio in ATF, which I imagine is a good thing.

As somebody who enjoys BBV4L a lot, I'd like to think that it's a bit more than a dumping ground.

maybe so. but maybe the site has become so complicated that a "training" forum makes sense.

tuq the trainer. somehow i can't help but think this would be funny.

[/ QUOTE ]

I really think this whole idea is unnecessary.

We currently have 4 offtopic forums for various niches off off topic crap. I am pretty liberal in terms of what I let into bbv4l, at least relatively compared to the other off topic forums. I still don't tolerate a lot of crap like racism and stuff against the ToC but I generally let the retards play as long as they don't hurt each other.

Exiles from OOT usually end up in bbv4l. If they can't handle the very loose set of restrictions I set up (if that sounds easy to moderate, it's not...ya give an inch and they take a mile), they usually leave 2p2. The people that can't handle the very simple rules of bbv4l and need a garbage forum that's even more nuts than bbv4l we simply don't want at this site.

I'm just not sure what the point of this new offtopic forum would be. El D and the Lounge covers our high brow stuff (8-10 content level on a scale of 1-10, with 10 being a Borodog essay and 1 being complete spam or posting with blank space), OOT covers 5-10 and BBV4l covers 2-10. Anything in the 1 range (porn, spam, endless streams of no content like people quoting the letter l) we shouldn't be encouraging.

I am indifferent about this idea, I see good and bad equally so I won't get involved except to say that if the trash dump is approved it should also include poker stuff such as the occasional horrible strategy threads as Dids pointed out.

I'm not going to force this forum on you, but I think it has the potential to serve a real purpose.

despite what some think, my goal is not really to bring the site ever nearer to the gutter. rather, i aim to make it a place which encourages posting on as many topics as possible.

the threads which i'd like to see go in this place will be started by people who don't necessarily like bbv4life. if someone starts a thread that would have a happy home in bbv4life in a different forum, then move it to bbv4life.

Ryan and i get a lot of emails from people who really don't understand why a post they made in OOt or NvG was locked or deleted. Frequently the answer can be found in the sticky, but sometimes it was just a judgment call. There are enough threads which fall into this category that i feel the forum would be justified.

Hopefully these threads will gain value under the direction of tuq and moved back into the greater community. Those which cannot be salvaged will live on as examples of what just ain't interesting, etc..

That's the niche as i see it.

i just want to point out that this dream of sending crap threads back to OOt might need a reality check. i would want to approve anything that gets moved into OOT from the dump, at least until i had a real good handle on tuq's style.

i am pretty indifferent to this forum, on the one hand gild thinks it's excessive and he deals even more closely with retards than i do. and i often feel like most mods don't really grasp the level of idiocy i encounter, so i can only imagine how mind-numbing moderating BBV must be at times.

on the other hand some people who are good posters or mods are enthusiastic about it and think it would be fun. this is basically all it takes to make a forum work if the subject matter exists.

let me just say again that i am not going to move all the 'what should i do in morgantown' or 'why is my penis turning black and falling off' threads to this forum. the only things i would consider moving to it would be OPs on relevant or popular topics that just suck horribly and need some retooling. i would guess that 95% of the crappy threads in OOT would be things i would not consider moving to any forum ever for any reason, because they deserve to die cold, lonely deaths.

if this forum is going to work, i think the top contributors would have to be (in rough order):

1. ATF
2. NVG
3. Sports (specifically, everything BOF ever posts)
4. Strat forums
5. all the other off-topic forums

one thing i would enjoy doing would be simply splitting off every post made by some people in a given day and sending it to the dump. that would be funny.

NT,

"i would guess that 95% of the crappy threads in OOT would be things i would not consider moving"

If that's the case, I don't really see the point of this forum. Especially since Gild is fine w/ those people just posting in BBV4L.

Ya, I'm not sure how well it would work unless the starrable/lockable OP's from OOT were moved there. And I don't see why NT! would have a problem clicking move instead of lock?

(I understand the moving back thing and don't see that as a good idea)
