Re: Upcoming Book by Tommy Angelo: \"Elements of Poker\"
[ QUOTE ]
Is it actually gonna contain strategy, or just a bunch of psychological stuff for people who lack discipline? [/ QUOTE ] I have no idea what the answer to this question is, but the question itself struck me as bad, at least as I interpret it. Then again I may be reading way too much into it, so I'll explain. The typical poker strategy books are of the cookbook type. (Raise this starting hand in this situation, etc.) Those that are worthwhile give you a good foundation to build on, a default approach. Others (ie NLT&P or Mathmatics of Poker) take a more general approach. These teach you how to figure out the exceptions to the default approach and are mathmatically based. The poker psychology books discuss your psychology as well as you opponent's. I could argue against your generalization that they would only benefit those "who lack disipline," but if you want to look at it that way that's fine. I think there is potentially a gap between these two. They're interrelated, but most books explore one or the other, not the relationships between the two. I have no idea about the contents of Angelo's book, however his article on "reciprocality" mentioned earlier in this thread sits in this middle ground between the two as I envision it. I don't think the article discusses anything revolutionary if you break it down to the elemental level, but the way he ties everything together is. If his book is even close to as well done and well thought out as this article I don't think it matters whether it is thought of as psychology or strategy, it's bound to be valuable. |

HI Mano:
I spoke too soon. Dynasty has already reminded me that he mentioned Tommy's book to me a while back. But I know nothing about the content. Best wishes, Mason |

you should try reading Tommy's blog. [/ QUOTE ] Didn't know he had a blog - other than posting articles on his site or over at PokerPages. Is there a URL that we should know about? [ QUOTE ] But I'll totally buy the book when it comes out. [/ QUOTE ] QFT I've read Reciprocality probably a half dozen times and go back to it at least every couple of months. It's like a breath of fresh air and I get something from it every single time I read it. Can't wait for the new book. - dubiousdrift |
