[ QUOTE ]
to short to reach around the table. Whilst playing at the 1/2 NL tables at the Imperial Palace this weekend (I know, that was my first mistake) - I can't tell you how many dealers there, couldn't reach around the table to grab cards and chips. It was driving me crazy - sorry, but I'm playing poker here, trying to relax with my Scotch and enjoy my weekend away. I expect to get dealers that can actually run a game without constantly asking people to push cards or chips closer so they can reach them. They need to be tipping me. Does this bug anyone else??? [/ QUOTE ] If I am on the floor just call me over. I will show you the mark and put some tape on the table so you dont' forget where to put your card. It isn't that hard, jsut put your chips and cards where the dealer can reach them. |

OP, if the dealer asking for the above bugs you that much, it's time to take a look inside and find out why you're so PO'd over something so trivial. |

I'm pretty good about pitching my cards into the muck (even from clear across the table) and placing my bets neatly within the dealers reach, but doesn't it seem odd that poker rooms would hire dealers with really short arms?
Shouldn't an adequate reach be a prerequisite to becoming a poker dealer. Assuming that pokeroom managers have a huge applicant pool to choose from, wouldn't "short-armers" be one of the first cuts? I really don't care as long as they run the game well, but it just mkes you think. Of course, if it's a cute little Asian dealer, I have no quams. |

to short to reach around the table. [/ QUOTE ] I played at Circus Circus once and the dealer was a midget. Good thing you weren't in that game; you would have had to use way too much energy. [ QUOTE ] I expect to get dealers that can actually run a game without constantly asking people to push cards or chips closer so they can reach them. [/ QUOTE ] The dealer is running the game correctly by asking you to push your cards. You are one that is holding up the game by not accomodating a simple request. |

I see players just placing bets and cards 2 cms in front of them. No dealer can reach them, let alone some of the smaller girls who deal at the Taj/Borg. If I'm next to these people, I often push their chips in to help the dealer, but serious folks...common courtesy.

Of course I agree with the consensus response so far.
As an aside there are players in LA (and I would assume in other areas) who when running bad (or just to be ornery) deliberately place their folded hands just out of reach of the dealer. Sure the dealer can retrieve it but only after getting up from (usually her) chair and painfully reaching (try this two hundred times a day - it's painful). It's the sort of sneaky passive/aggressive yet abusive behavior which unfortunately flies just under the radar. It's obnoxious and sickening. These days if I'm sitting next to such a person with a good angle I've learned to continuously push the player's cards within easy reach of the dealer without comment or emotion. Usually this embarrasses the a_hole into doing the right thing after a while. ~ Rick |

Maybe the casinos need to start breeding Hold'em table sized people?
And perhaps the waitresses should hold the glass up to people and put the straw in their mouth? I mean they should be tipping me for having to lift the glass myself. And what about me having to WALK from my car...perhaps one of those beds that 4 strong men carry me in? |

[/ QUOTE ] Am I reading you right? In response to the suggestion that we recognize it's to everybody's benefit to move the game along quickly, and to recognize that a dealer isn't a piece of meat but an actual person.... your immediately jumped to comparing this to somebody putting a straw in your mouth? Really? This is logical for you? If so, let me introduce you to my friend Shades of Gray. He tends to clash with Polarity, but he's a good guy once you get to know him. |
