Re: One-sided games: Newbury v. Bridgewater State Baseball, 57-1
I was on a team that lost by 59 in a league with the 50 point rule in little league football. After a team went down by 50 they would be given the ball on the opposing 20 yardline, normal football rules. If they turned it over, they'd get the ball right back with another chance to score. We of course went down 53, then fumbled the snap and the other team ran it back for a touchdown.
We almost beat that team later in the season. They started the game with their 3rd string players and we ran up an early lead, 12-0. They put in the good players the rest of the game and we lost 19-12 or something like that. The major reason for our improvement was the fact that half the players quit after the first two games. The kids who left were pretty much all the worst players on our team, and replacing them were the actual 130 lb. pee-wee caliber talent who had been on the other side of the ball and now were playing both ways, despite having never practiced with the other side. |

Biggest college football defeat of all time Georgia Tech beat Cumberland 222 to 0.
Wikipedia article Play by Play Things I didn't know about the game until I just read the Wiki article: * Georgia Tech lost to Cumberland in baseball 22 to 0, leading to the football team running up the score. * Cumberland actually disbanded their football team prior to this game. But since the game was already scheduled (and GT wanted to run the score up), GT insisted on the game taking place. * GT didn't throw a single pass. |
