Re: Ranking the Super Bowl MVPs
I think it'd be more interesting to rank their MVP games only(not their careers). As is, my top 10(because I simply don't feel like putting forth the effort of an entire list) would be:
1. Jerry Rice 2. Emmitt Smith 3. Joe Montana 4. Tom Brady 5. Peyton Manning 6. Ray Lewis 7. Steve Young 8. John Elway 9. Randy White 10. Roger Staubach |

Same with Brady against the Rams (but not against Carolina). Ray Lewis really didn't do anything that great. Simms and Doug Williams would be top 5. |

Re: Ranking the Super Bowl MVPs
You misunderstood. I thought that it would be more fun to just rank the individual games. But as is I ranked them like that according to OP's guidelines.

I'm an idiot. So we have the same top 10 then. You're pretty high on Ray Lewis and pretty low on Elway eh? Elway's stats weren't as great as I thought, his completion percentage was usually in the mid 50's for most of his career, but the man had longevity. |

Re: Ranking the Super Bowl MVPs
My opinion is that most fans overrate Elway due to his last few years, and while he played well, he wasn't even the best player on his team then(TD was). For example, everyone always had Marino ranked higher, but then after the 2 SB wins most people had Elway higher....but those only happened because he had such talent around him.
And I'm a Ravens/Redskins fan, so maybe I'm just being a homer with Ray Lewis...I won't argue too much if you think he should be lower. |

Who has had the greatest super bowl game ever? I don't think I am old enough or know enough history to answer.

Re: Ranking the Super Bowl MVPs
I probably don't know enough history here to make a full list. But considering that you're projecting for the future, and QB is by far the most important position on the field, I can't see how Manning is anything but 1.
Also, Steve Young is ranked too low (top 3, IMHO, maybe top 4 at worst). |

[/ QUOTE ] I see this argument all the time & never understand it. It's like Elway gets severely punished for having TD on his team. If you pretend those years didn't happen he still got there 3 times vs. Marino's 1 with the same lack of a running game...does this not count for anything? |

Re: Ranking the Super Bowl MVPs
OP seems to seriously undervalue QBs.
