You're crazy

Far too many draws on the turn to give away a free card.

I think it's played fine. If you raise flop, he folds. At least if you let him see the turn, villain may see something he likes and get hooked on the turn.

Slowplaying flop is ok, raising flop is fine too.

Check the turn and hope you get a little more on river as the A is a bad card for you but for the most part you're just not going to get a ton of chips out of this pot unless villian donks into 2 pair with A5 or A3.

what r u scared of 24? 46? he cant have the ace of spades. if he catches runner runner flush so be it. he'd have to have kq spades to call pf. checking the turn is pretty safe.

or KJ, KT, K9, QJ, QT, or even some suited connector like 67, 65

never overestimate your opponents skill level if you dont know him. he can have tons of types of spades

you think he would lead the flop with k10, k9, q10, or 67? even leading with kq is not likely

yes i do.

its a flop that likely missed a PFR, and hes trying to take it down right there.

which in this case, obviously did not work, and he didnt put another buck into it.

I don't like the flop raise for one reason that nobody has mentioned yet.

Look at villains stack size, its slightly over 20 BB. We have plenty of time to build a 20 BB pot and we don't need to start taking risks on the flop. If he had 100+ BB, then I would be more inclined to raise. A call is perfectly fine, and I think that a raise is just horrible here.

if he did have these hands wouldnt it make more sense for him to lead again on the turn? it just seems to me that checking the turn and trying to get a value bet on the river is the better play even if it means giving a free card.

If he's calling on the river he'll call the turn also most of the time, the hands that give us action on the river that dont on the turn are a few mid pairs and then a bunch of hit draws and thats it. If he hates the ace on the turn he doesnt like it much more on the river, so we're either giving up value by checking the turn or giving a free card. The merit to checking the turn is giving him an opportunity to bluff the river or make a heroic check call, but I dont think this makes up for the times we leave money on the table if he has an ace or a draw on the turn.

EDIT: If he was bluffing with 2 spades on the flop its possible he thinks you hit the ace and he doesnt want to be raised off his draw so he goes to a check call line on the turn, I dont think he'd lead again into the pot after that flat call with a hand he wants to see the river.
