Also, to the OP, I typically support the general idea behind this thread (that the Pumpkins were [censored] awesome and even though they were very very highly rated, were even better than the hype), but it's hard to pull this off.

My vote would go to either Stir or The Urge, two local bands out of St. Louis that really rocked and didn't get much attention outside of the area.
