Without someone critically appraising your play how will you ever progress? I pitty the forumites who get paired with me but the more you do the better you get. fact. sign up for early september review. hell, maybe a 1000+ forumite/experienced session reviewer could do one for you this week. Good luck. [/ QUOTE ] How does one get into a session review? |

From POP:
[ QUOTE ] Make predictions and verbalize your reasoning. ... It it such a powerful tool, that virtually all scientist use it. They explicitly say, "If my theory is correct, this will happen because of A and B and C." If their prediction is incorrect, they can quickly determine what they did wrong and revise their theory. Does anyone know where we could set up a private table for idea #1? It doesn't look like stars does them. We could even use a playmoney table if they have private ones at some site.

I really thought we tried idea #1 way back when with like 6 experienced posters playing and everyone else who wanted in was sweating one of those players. I thought it worked out ok, but after awhile, because it was .02/.04, it turned into everyone capping everything preflop.

Here's my best advice:
before you act, ***always*** make an explicit decision for how you will respond to any of villain's possible moves (before you act!!!). So, you're in the BB w/ K4 and there's 2 limpers, SB folds. Flop is K57. Before you donk, you should think to yourself "if the LP guy in MP3 raises me, I'm folding, but if the LAG guy in CO raises me, I'm going to call, and re-evaluate the turn." So, you have this thought, and then you bet. MP3 calls, LAG calls. Now, your plan is to b/f UI on the turn. So the turn comes Q. And you think "if I'm raised, I will fold." You bet, MP calls, but CO raises. You insta-muck. If you hadn't thought about how you would respond to a raise **before** you acted, you would be tempted to call it down. If you had thought before you bet..."I've got TP, I'm just going to bet and see what happens." And then get raised, you will react emotionally to the raise, and are more likely to make a poor decision, in this case a call down. Habitually calling down doesn't make you terrible, it just makes you average. Do you know what your villain will think about you when you fold in this spot in our hypothetical hand? He will think you were betting the flop and turn with middle or bottom pair or maybe even Ace high, because you wouldn't fold a King. |

[/ QUOTE ] bloody good advice chris. but for a newb, or someone like OP or I who are just learning, this is going to take another 10000 hands and a dozen session reviews to come instantly. good thread this |

I do it on nearly every hand I VPIP. Especially if I preflop raise with like AK-J KQ, KJs and hands like that when the hand gets multiway. I'll say, "I'm gonna c bet this if it is 3 or less, b/f if it is 4 or more, check/call and that's the last money I put in if I don't improve", or, "I'm gonna c-bet the turn but won't pay for a showdown". Even if you are just learning, you still need a plan. Even if it is wrong. |
