Re: let\'s see some music videos
I somehow fell into music videos a couple years back and stocked up a pretty sizeable collection.
Some of my favourites: Sigur Ros - Glosoli (dir Arni and Kinski) - video The most moving music vid I've ever seen set to one of a great, great track. Some sick cinematography. Two shots that really bug me, both toward the end, but all the good things easily make up for it. Royksopp - What Else Is There (dir Martin de Thurah) - video Sick visuals, solid track, amazing vision. Bjork - All Is Full Of Love (dir Chris Cunningham) - video Just beautiful. I've seen it written by people in the business that the CG on the body on the robots is the best that's ever been done. Yes, this was made years before iRobot was in development, and yes, they blatantly ripped their design from this vid. Plus, Bjork singing makes me want to dance and make out with her. Carpark North - Human (dir Martin de Thurah) - video Another video with kids. Great lighting and lots of fun. Won best video of the year on antville, back when antville didn't suck. |

Re: let\'s see some music videos
Despite the fact that it seems like the video was shot in a gay bar using out of work gay porn actors as dancers, this is a great song -
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds : Stagger Lee This video just makes me smile whenever I watch it - Gogol Bordello : Start Wearing Purple And, despite not being very obscure, this is by far the best music video I've ever seen, and one of the best covers I've ever heard - Johnny Cash : Hurt |

16 Military Wives - The Decemberists: an homage to Rushmore, which could have turned out silly but is actually really cool and well done, imo

I concur on the hotness of the voice, though I think I'm actually happier that Bjork is pretty much offstage for this one, as her physical presence occasionally weirds me out (e.g. Hunter) |

Re: let\'s see some music videos
As far as Gondry goes, the most rewatchable video by him for me is Star Guitar. It's like I find something new in it each time. Noticing the smoke rising from the smoke stacks or figuring out which buildings are which synth parts or the first time I realized the only human voices in the song were portrayed by the only humans in the video (which sadly took me more than a few watches to make the connection). Gondry planned this whole video out with nothing more than standard graph paper and a pen, then made a model of it in a parking lot by laying down oranges and pint glasses and vhs tapes and various sized cans, sneakers, screws, and whatever else he could find. The man is ridiculous.
Chemical Brothers - Star Guitar (dir Michel Gondry) |
