A few oldies that the group may know ...
Ooh Child by the Five Staresteps (if you don't think you know the song, you'd know it if you heard it) has a great climax with some awesome drumming. also: Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In by the Fifth Dimension We are the Champions Love Reign O'er Me Me and Mrs. Jones Oh yeah, and Freebird. Ooooh.
Chicago reminds me. I think the fade-out on the song Beginnings deserves consideration. Some of the more 'intense' endings I'm thinking of are more like drawn-out fades. Those are more intense to me but perhaps in a way is the opposite of what the original post is seeking. as for the ending of Beginnings, it's an 8:00 long song but the end of it extends for awhile in a fun instrumental jam. The brass and other instruments gradually fade away leaving you with just the random percussion thingees keeping the beat. Usually on the radio the version the DJ has cuts it off early which sucks. |

okay, as long as I've steered this thing towards oldies AM-radio land, the trumpet stuff at the end of Raindrops Keep Fallin on My Head by Burt Bacharach performed by B.J. Thomas was always one of my favorite endings.
More recently, Ben Folds Five covered this song and REALLY played up the finish. |
