Shorting with 20xBB is one thing, but if you drop down to 15x or 10xBB would it be more profitable to stay that way and change your hand-range than rebuy to 20xBB? I think shorting at 6-max tables is extremely hard (small sample) and wouldnt suggest it.. better rates with full stacking.

And the whole point of short stacking is to double-up and run.

Not quite - the point of shortstacking is to take advantage of the fact that the vast majority of players don't adapt. You know how play with 20bbs, they don't know how to play against it - you make money.

Of course, most people can't adapt to play against 40bbs either, but then shortstackers have the same problem - they become so specialist with 20bbs that they can't play 40bbs nearly as well.

(note - change the numbers to fit the individual players. And of course there are some extremely good shortstackers - I wouldn't want to play against a shortstacked Chris Ferguson...)

I'm pretty sure that the shorter you are, the bigger your edge is (the edge you receive by being short, that is).

As far as defending the blinds, it usually becomes a shove or fold situation. This completely negates your positional disadvantage, and if you're aware of the supposed stealer's stealing range, shouldn't it be easy to determine the proper restealing range? I don't really "defend" my blinds playing deep stacked, but personally I find it easier playing from the blinds short because there's only so much pressure my opponents can put on me. Deep stacked, a good player with position has much more opportunity to take advantage of you.

That was my first reaction, but I'm starting to rethink it. There may be a very profitable approach to 6-max for SS play. I think the rake really hurts you much more than it does deep stacked, though.
