I've always been into doing things - I used to do a lot of rock climbing, whitewater kayaking, and mountain biking. Now that I'm married and living far from good areas to do those I ride a road bike.

For me, exercising helps me de-stress, makes me feel better(the looking good/confidence thing fits in here too), provides some general fitness, and also is a good way to meet people. I just started riding with the local bike club so I also get a bit of friendly competition in. I saw a couple of people lately mention bike riding here...I would definitely suggest those people check into their local bike club/bike shops for group rides. They are a lot of fun and you'll tend to push yourself a little more.

well....i struggle to workout/diet/train, but it's always on my mind for the following reasons:

1) (most important by a far, far margin) Much of my family struggles with weight-related issues. I've seen the physical issues, the low mobility, the health problems, and the mental fatigue that result. I have a big fear that when and if I have children, they won't get to meet my mom. I want to do my best to make sure that I avoid those issues as best I can.

2) Look good for the gf

3) I really enjoy playing sports, but my body's poor shape has been a severe hinderance in enjoying sports to the fullest.

Very good reasons. I think just about everyone who works out seriously shares them but often understates them.

There's a large variety of people in here - athletes, bodybuilders, people who just want to get fit, people who want to drop a few pounds, and so forth. Why do you hit the gym every other day, go running outside, avoid french fries, and eat grilled chicken until you can't even taste it anymore?

I work out, diet, and train for (mainly) one reason only: To excel as a baseball player.

The comments about "wow, you look good man" and "have you lost some weight" (typically when I go back to Cleveland) are secondary, but always nice motivators.

What part of Cleveland? What HS did you go to?

Grew up in Ohio City (when it wasn't as nice as it is now!), moved to Parma when my parents wanted a better life for their kids (I'm the oldest). I went to Parma Senior HS, then a short stint at OSU, then Baldwin-Wallace.

Sorry abt the hijack.

The greatest feeling you can get in a gym, or the most satisfying feeling you can get in the gym is... The Pump. Let's say you train your biceps. Blood is rushing into your muscles and that's what we call The Pump. You muscles get a really tight feeling, like your skin is going to explode any minute, and it's really tight - it's like somebody blowing air into it, into your muscle. It just blows up, and it feels really different. It feels fantastic.

Having a pump is like having sex. I train two, sometimes three times a day. Each time I get a pump. It's great. I feel like I'm coming all day.
