The only things that qualify as "dump" are the poker players. And even them have improved, I think.

Nope the story has changed but the players remain the same.

You can still find the same usual suspects from 5 years ago.

I think the people saying the Taj is a dump hasn't been there in a while. They've upgraded their whole casino, trying to modernize it. Their chips aren't dirty anymore.

I do not agree with "the chips are clean" statement. I think I contracted syphillis from the last rack I had a couple of weeks ago.

I recently played at the Hilton last weekend, and I could swear I saw "Elaine" dealing who used to floor at the Trop Poker Room - I always used to see her at the Trop.

I normally always play at the Trop, but thought I'd head over to check out the Hilton, since I hadn't played there since last year. I went over on a Friday night to play 1/2 NL and found that they had lowered the 100+20 tourney to a 40+10 with 15000 chips, so I couldn't resist and played in it and finished 11th. The room is pretty nice, has bottled beer and decent service. It was a little cold in there, but the action was nice. Not too many tables going though, and it was a Friday night, I was kinda surprised. We had around 65 people for the tourney, and maybe about 12 live games were going at that time. By the time I left around 4:30am, we had started to combine tables as they were breaking and only about 5 tables were going as I walked out.

It was a little tough for me to play there, since I have been playing at Trop's room for the past 12 years (albeit only around once or twice a month, but still). So, all this stuff I keep hearing about the Trop - what EXACTLY is going on over there ??? I've heard all kinds of things from dealers getting fired/let go, and just an overall decline in the situation over there. Should I make the Hilton my new place to play ???

I must say, with the bottled beer and better comps, plus it's closer to my family's vacation home, I may be visiting the Hilton instead of the Trop from now on.

I was at Taj this past Sunday after a little while away. The casino floor looks FANTASTIC - they did a heck of a job remodeling it in my opinion (new carpet, cages, Vegas style look, renovated bathrooms, 24-hour noodle bar, etc).

In addition, the poker room now has: plasmas visible from most seats, clean chips, new chairs and carpet, snack bar delivery service (they've had this for awhile), electronic boards for the high limit area, etc. They are beginning to get some higher limit stud games back and have been spreading 80-160 stud of late (sometimes it becomes a mixed game) and 40 stud is consistent. The 20 is one of the best action mid limit games in the country in my opinion.

It definitely does have a different feel than Borgata (and clientèle) and they can't get higher limit hold 'em going, but I still find it nice to play there on occasion just for a change of pace (and the game selection for those who like stud). It is not the "dump" it used to be, and it's not close.

Jeff

The Trop has gotten rid of the daytime tourneys and the monthly Invitational (a nice perk for regulars). Instead of the new room that originally was being planned on, a couple of dealers said it was a no go once the new ownership took over. Rather, they are trying to close the NL side and keep a smaller room.

Plus, the tourney's are capped at nine or ten tables. Probably because they laid off most of the full-time dealers so that they don't have to pay too much in benefits with a ton of part timers in the room.

I enjoy the Trop, but it's slowly going down hill.

Taj isn't a "dump." The chips are still filthy. I split time between the Taj and the Borg. Taj serves free Red Bulls, the Borg does not.

Jeff,

Nice seeing you a few weeks back. You look great, you lost a lot of weight.

It is not the "dump" it used to be, and it's not close.
I agree with you about the Taj room. It looks completely different now.

You mean like how the Borgata built a smaller poker room then what they already had!

Come on now why in the hell would you spend the money to build a poker room that is half the size of what you have. A lot of these casinos are starting to cater a bit more to poker than they had in the past.

[/ QUOTE ]

??? New borgata poker room has 85 tables, i believe the old one had something like 45-60. The new room is definately bigger than the old one.

Your sarcasm meter needs tuning.

Plus, at the low limit end, you can swipe your card, and manually put in your initials for waitlists. Never seen that before.

In the high limit room it does.

Just go to the Borgata it's the best room, and I'm pretty sure they offer the best comps to poker players.
