Re: EDF: Evaluate my potential band\'s setlist
Nut-
4 guys in band. 2 guitars, bass, and drums. We all were good once upon a time. I don't know how we'll sound now. I imagine it will be like riding a bike. John Voight- I actually think this isn't standard fair classic rock. Why do you say that? |

Re: EDF: Evaluate my potential band\'s setlist
Good choices that should get the room going
Don't Stop Believing – Journey Squeeze Box - The Who The Joker/Remix to Igition - Steve Miller Band/R. Kelly Rock N Roll All Nite - KISS Midnight Rambler - Rolling Stones I'm In Love With A Stripper - T Pain Talk Dirty To Me - Poison Lick it Up – KISS Why Don't We Get Drunk and Screw - Jimmy Buffett Kick Out The Jams Mother [censored] - The MC5 Mama We're All Crazy Now – Slade Raw Power - Iggy & The Stooges Mississippi Queen – Mountain Only if you have two guitarists with chops will this one work. Rhythm track is what makes the lead awesome. Do not attempt with one guitar player. Start Me Up - Rolling Stones A zillion better Stones songs than SMU. Try a newer one like “Driving too fast” or go retro with “Stray Cat Blues”. “One hit to the body” is easy and totally rocks. Down by the River - Neil Young I love Neil but DBTR will clear the room. Cinnamon Girl is the one Helter Skelter - The Beatles Not so good. If you want something from the While Album try WMGGW. If your guitarist can do Mississippi Queen he can probably do it pretty well. Panama - Van Halen Beautiful Girls a better VH bar song We Don't Get Fooled Again - The Who No way is your singer gonna do this justice Fat Bottomed Girls – Queen Big Bottom - Spinal Tap Leave these out. Chicks don't like songs about big booty. Makes most of them feel self conscious. Good luck with your return to playing out. |

Re: EDF: Evaluate my potential band\'s setlist
JB,
I just want to echo the statements so far that that would be one helluva long set - and it rules! How about an updated set list with ones that you're likely to include based on feedback here? |

Re: EDF: Evaluate my potential band\'s setlist
do you have more than one singer? A set like that is going to take its toll on anyone's voice. I think you should consider at least a couple of more instrumental pieces (there might be some among the songs I'm not familiar with).

Re: EDF: Evaluate my potential band\'s setlist
FWIW, I am in a very similar situation, but maybe 3 months ahead of you. Band got back together after almost 10 years or so. Here is our current list (we have 3 guitars, but it's more like 2 1/2 cuz the singer isn't allowed to play when he sings due to the fact that he screws up too much).
Talk Dirty to Me - Poison Every Rose Has its Thorn - Poison 8675309 - Tommy Tutone, but punked up a bit Far Behind - Candlebox Rockin Into the Night - 38 Special Sweet Child o Mine - GnR Shakin - Eddie Money Wanted Dead or Alive - Bon Jovi Have a Nice Day - Bon Jovi Simple Man - Skynyrd Rockin In the Free World - Neil Young Sympathy For the Devil - Rolling Stones Times Like These - Foo Fighters I Ran - Flock of Seagulls (but we kinda punk this one up too) One - Creed Pretty much your standard classic rock stuff at this point. We are all 40 +/- 3 so it's in our comfort zone. I think we need a few more rockers and/or a couple less ballads, but as a guitarist I get a chub over playing the solos on the cool '80s power ballads, so I'm conflicted, lol. Your list is pretty killer and I am prolly going to steal a few tunes if you don't mind. I do agree with the one guy that Down By the River will put everyone to sleep. Go with something like Mansion on the Hill or Powderfinger instead. |

Re: EDF: Evaluate my potential band\'s setlist
Are you looking for a 5 Hour set list? That is pretty insanely long. There are 47 songs. At like an average of 5 minutes a piece plus 1 minute between songs + breaks thats like 220 minutes plus breaks!!!!
Wow!!! Other than that it looks great!!! What I would do is a dress rehersal where you play straight through, time it and take at least one break. Then choose some songs that are going to be set and some that are goign to be "rotational." That way if you end up playing a lot of gigs you will have some songs that you can swap in and out. It keeps things fresh for your audience and for you guys. +EV |

Re: EDF: Evaluate my potential band\'s setlist
Don't Stop Believing - Journey
- dump (and I actually like Journey) Talk Dirty To Me - Poison Lick it Up - KISS I Ran - A Flock of Seagulls - dump Big Bottom - Spinal Tap heh, cool Delia's Gone - Johnny Cash cool, but you could add more or better Cash Straight To Hell - Drivin & Cryin cool Ballroom Blitz - Sweet heh, cool, I wonder how it would go over (Love is Like Oxygen?) How about Southern Culture on the Skids? If you're doing Cash and Willie Nelson you could throw in some Social Distortion or Mike Ness. Ness's version of Hank Robbins Big Iron is pretty cool. |

I Ran - A Flock of Seagulls [/ QUOTE ] Everyone else is saying "cool", so all I can say is you better play it tongue-in-cheek, or else funk it up a bit because it doesn't really fit with your other stuff. |

Re: EDF: Evaluate my potential band\'s setlist
All,
I know it's a long list, but it's not meant to be played in one night, or one continous set. We just want a deep list of options in case we end up doing a four hour party or something - with multiple breaks. Here's the adjustments I'm think of making: Down By The River is pretty much out. Fortunate Son is likely in. Thin Lizzy may find it's way in - either Cowboy Song, Rosalie, or The Boys Are Back in Town Some one suggested old school AC/DC. I like it, but I've heard too many bar bands sound silly trying to cover You Shook Me All Night Long. We'd definately have to go deeper - probably Whole Lotta Rosie or Love Hungry Man. Those tend to work better at not sounding like a cheap imitation. Keep the suggestions coming. I'm especially found of taking songs that weren't rock songs and making them into rock songs - ala our cover of I Ran. We're also considering doing this with Burning Down The House (Talking Heads). |
