The slave that T. Jefferson is said to have had children by. Her descendants would be considered black and would have a slave owner as an ancestor. Even if T. Jefferson did not father her children, she was evidently the offspring of her mother's owner, who happened to be T. Jefferson's father-in-law.
Basic point: a fair number of children were produced by slave owner/slave unions. Their descendants would be like Obama in this regard.

[/ QUOTE ] I hope people here realize that even in Africa, many tribes still had slaves and traded them to the white man, who in turn brought them over to Europe and the Americas. Slavery is not a white vs black phenomena, but rather a cultural one. It is just easier to say it is black vs white issue and make it based on color which is easier for people to identify with.
