I'm just wondering what exactly this players' council did if they didn't even get the blings right for the most important tourney.

Great report, thanks Blair!

I just got back from Vegas and I was there to see the beginning and almost the end of the HORSE event (had to leave at 5am to catch my flight). There was definately an electricity in the air and given the final table lineup and grueling heads up battle I think that the event lived up to the hype.

I would also agree that the final table should have continued the HORSE rotation. There are plently of NLHE events on TV for the masses, having one televised tourney that only drew die hard viewers wouldn't be the end of the world. Heck, it would still draw more than hockey and ESPN carried that for years (Now I am a diehard hockey fan, but we all know tv numbers for hockey are pathetic).

most people in the world don't have a good understanding of texas hold'em, so perhaps next year espn will decide to change the final table to a rotation of go fish, old maid, uno, 52 pick-up, and slap jack.

It would be awfully confusing to show one hand of razz, the next hand of stud, and the following hand of stud/8.

Thx for all the positive comments.

FYI, I’ve written reports on just about every major tournament I’ve played in since the 2004 WSOP. They are archived at

Great report.
I remember in the early 200s they sometimes had a hose or a razz event at 2 and a different event that started at noon.
The pros really loved the small field events because of the small field sizes.
I guess having a second event would not work on the NL hold em days. But pairing a big horse event with a stud event might still work.
