from one of my other posts:

I went up in my attic and broke out the gambling books (about 40 of them). "Aces and Kings" by Michael Kaplan and Brad Reagen.

p71 "In the 1970s and early 80's, cocaine was as prominent in the poker rooms as bottled water is today...Even Reese got sucked in--though not to the extent of some of his pals. On one occasion, according to Robison, several of them (including Ungar holed up and played an epic gin rummy match that lasted more than three weeks. They sent out for cocaine, under the condition that the losers would ultimately pick up the tab. The final bill, just for coke, was more than $90,000."

Here is a link to a profile of Danny Robison, Chips partner. They even bought a house together.

p72 “Robison says Spilatro then demanded 25 of his and Reese’s poke winnings, in exchange for his protection from the cheaters and other Mafia muscle in town. Robison says it took them more than a year to break free of the extortion. “

p73 “As a result Reese refuses to discuss Spilatro. “I had a lot of trouble with [Spilatro]. Everybody did,” he says.

Also from p42 of "Gambling Wizards--Chip Reeese " I had $100,000 and I was 23 years old, having the time of my life, and I had no intention of going anywhere right away. I never left. I got broke a few times. Between the ages of 23 and 30 I was probably a millionaire and broke four times. This was in the '70's."
