This isn't a value bet.

[/ QUOTE ]

no [censored]. and it's not a bluff either.

[/ QUOTE ]

So this bet accomplishes nothing then. There's your answer.

FWIW, i'd consider it a bluff

But, regularly open-raising small pairs?

[/ QUOTE ]

Over the last 3,953 times I was dealt a pair in a tourney, I'm playing them all profitably excpet 22, 55 and 99....weird.....just checked some hands.....lost some big chip pots near the end of tournies with them....

I am raising them:

Edit: Screwed up the first post, all good now.

22-30%
33-28%
44-37%
55-34%
66-40%
77-49%
88-54%
99-57%
TT-77%
JJ-85%
QQ-87%
KK-84%
AA-79% <------- Ohhhhhh tricky me

I like raising them.

Not all the time, but like Adanthar said, when the stacks are right etc, its fine.

Regards,
Woodguy

Ah...now this has more of the pattern I would expect to see. More of a linear increase w/the exception of your oh so sly play w/AA. Thanks Woodguy.

now that we've gotten that out of the way, does anyone's play differ here if they have 88 instead of 44

[/ QUOTE ]
This is a bluff because 4 ways you rarely have the best hand and if your called you have 2 outs. It's a very easy c/f on the flop.

YOU WIN DA PRIZE! yeah, no.

it's not a bluff and it's not a value bet, not because it's neither, but because it's both. get it? it's not a HU pot bro.

and for discussion's sake, here's a HU hand that i also think is good because it's for value and as a bluff. anyone feel free to comment on it

you make bets based on villain's hand ranges, not on specific holdings

Seat 1: faizel222 (6570 in chips)
Seat 2: LadeeeJay (48758 in chips)
Seat 3: JimT003 (5160 in chips)
Seat 6: 0evg0 (48297 in chips)

0evg0: raises 1200 to 1800
faizel222: folds
LadeeeJay: calls 1200
*** FLOP *** [5h Th Jd]
LadeeeJay: checks
0evg0: bets 2400

I don't bet this flop.

I don't think pre flop is a spew. Under 30 BB's i lean more towards open folding though.

limp pf, c/f flop--are you actually trying to make money out of this hand on the flop?

Am I the only one (other than evg) that does things like this?

Maybe we're spewing... Maybe we're isolating over-cards and taking down a decent sized pot... Hell maybe we're taking down decent pots on the flop... Why all the bitching? If you aren't making "weird" plays from EP sometimes then isn't it pretty obvious what you have when you DO raise from EP?
